TL;DR Version: The Garlic White Cheddar Crispy Chicken Sandwich from @McDonalds is better than the burger iteration of the same sandwich and a better option than the Crispy Colonel from @KFC due to the sauce/mayo difference. Full Review: After seeing the commercial about a hundred thousand times in the past few weeks, I broke down and decided to try the Garlic White Cheddar Crispy Chicken Sandwich from McDonaldโs. When I arrived I discovered that there was also a burger version of the same sandwich and this review turned into a twofer. Both sandwiches start with an artisan roll, fancy lettuce, tomato slice, garlic aioli, a slice of white cheddar, and garlic chips. The only difference in ingredients is that the burger gets a quarter pound beef patty and the crispy chicken gets a buttermilk breaded chicken breast. I alternated eating halves of each sandwich to make sure Iโd get a good feel for both. First up, I ate half the burger. It benefitted most from the extra crunch supplied by the garlic chips, but the garlic flavor itself was lost in the juices of the burger. The result was a different texture to the burger, but it otherwise tasted mostly like a moderately sized, high end cheeseburger. Next I took on the first half of the chicken sandwich and it was the opposite issue. While the crunch of the garlic chips was totally lost in the crispy fried breading, the garlic flavor powerfully made its presence known. Considering how similar the non-taste factors are (price is exactly the same, calorie difference is negligible with the chicken sandwich at 700 being only 60 calories higher than the burger), if I was doing this again I would just get the chicken sandwich since it makes the best use of the unique toppings. I also think I prefer this to the Crispy Colonel from KFC, which I reviewed last week.
