This scene completely contextualizes the revitalization of Sammy and Yaz's relationship, as well as justifies the speed with which Sammy forgave Brooklynn, but it can easily slip past the audience because it's so swift and understated.
Because in this scene, Sammy and Kenji are running for their lives. They're not necessarily About To Die, but there is a strong chance that they are, in fact, About To Die, and the two of them are trying to find a solution....to no avail. Sammy is running out of hope and beginning to accept that this could be the end, this is where she dies...
And then, who shows up?
Her family.
It might not have been intentional, they might not have deliberately traveled to find her, but they are here anyway, and they're offering a path to survival, so of course Sammy chooses that path. Of course she rejoins her family. And the how or why don't matter to her, because she was alone and terrified and her family appeared.

And Sammy survived, because they were there for her.
