I read an eloquent description of how kids with disabilities learn to be suspicious of optimistic teachers. It's about a pattern where teachers think they can make a kid's disability disappear or b...
The Uninspirational wrote a reply to my post on how disabled kids learn to be suspicious of optimistic teachers. They point out that the same dynamic happens with doctors:
This pattern, where somebody in a position of power expects their actions to somehow rescue a person they’re supposed to help in some way, is something I’ve experienced a lot as a patient within the healthcare system. Mostly with doctors but also with psychologists, physiotherapists and occupational therapists. It goes something like this...

I
I'm the type of person that immerses myself in hobbies and activities to distract me from my destructive, negative thoughts. I can't just sit, because if I do that, my mind takes over and the negativity just barges in. Like there's just so much shit built up that I don't know when or how I will blow. No one would know this just by looking at me. I seem like I'm so happy, and so optimistic. Its been happening for so long, I'm not even sure who I'm convincing anymore. Me or the people around me. I can't accept compliments, love, like I'm just fucked up.
...and again... and again....
