#false names

but i was wondering just with how much thought names are chosen?

is it the equivalent of *spends three weeks reading through every meaning on babynames.com* or is it more *stares blankly out the window for two seconds and decides the new name will be Grass*?

Haha I’ll answer this for false names in general, it really depends on the person! Younger mortalis would generally go by a false name of a family member with an added suffix or word indicating that they’re the child or some other relation, until they find whatever name they’d like to have. Which might also change once they learn their true name.

There’s absolutely some people who change their false names a lot due to indecisiveness or maybe fun (though there’s some social nuance here) and others who may go by a self-imposed title or else a different relationship until they’re ready to share their false name.

I use a false name on the internet. My life is not in danger, but there are people who are toxic to me that I strongly prefer to avoid. So, starting 3 years ago, I changed my name on all of my public places and stopped using my real name when I join anywhere or sign up for anything.

I was just searching myself on google. I do that once or twice a year just to check up on it. I went 7 pages deep before giving up. There was exactly ONE mention of me that was actually me and not someone else with the same name. And that mention was a broken link!!
