Autumn leaves me with a very nagging question
Do I do my hair or throw a beanie on and call it a day?
Combat Winter Skin
What is, in my opinion, the best time of year is just around the corner...WINTER. I may be just a tad bit early but in some parts of the U.S it is already starting to get cold plus it's better to be prepared before hand.
The common make up trend for fall/winter is typically matte skin. Personally, I am not a fan of matte skin although I used to be. But because of this trend, you must keep the skin beneath the make up, radiant and hydrated and just...great. So I'm going to share with you a few ways on how I achieve soft, and radiant skin in this time of year that doesn't really agree with our skin.
1. Mask it up. Exfoliate.
So I am very big on skin care and the best way to maintain your skin is by constantly being attentive and that means the times especially when you're just sitting at home with no make up on. These are the best time to use your most favorite masks to help provide your skin with the nutrients and hydration that gets withdrawn when wearing make up. I am not a fan of store-bought skin care that contain chemicals and such but I definitely am a DIY at home mask kind of person. (I will later be providing more in depth information on my favorite DIY skin care if you'd like.) Exfoliation will be your absolute best friend in the winter months.
2. Layer on the moisture
I cannot seem to stress this enough. This goes for the skin on your whole body, not just your face. More than you usually would, you need to pile in the moisturizers and, if you live in a colder climate, or just want extra hydration, maybe even a beauty oil. Beauty oils help lock in moisture. So, if you live in a colder climate, or have dry skin that seems to become unbearable in the winter months, this would be your best bet. Pick a beauty oil of your choice, there are plenty out there and(I suggest this step right before bed) after your night routine of washing your face and moisturizing as you would normally apply a small amount of the beauty oil in a patting, circular motion around your face. Those of you that have oily skin, do not be afraid to try out the beauty oils! Oil combats oil. If you are overly producing oil on your face it probably means that your body is asking for the extra hydration so try treating your skin by adding this step into your regimen and see how it works for you. There are also body oils that can be used for the same purpose. I've recently discovered one by Neutrogena that is amazing, you can find this oil just about anywhere.
So here's a little tip for your feet, a little random but let's face it...this is quite the problem area especially for us women who like to wear open heel shoes and all that jazz. Okay so you may have seen that now a days you buy these little gelly socks that come equipped to give your feet hydration while you walk around. But ain't nobody got time or money for that lol. The alternative you can do, that I've found to be very effective is slathering on a ton of lotion on your feet straight out of your warm shower and then take a pair of socks that you don't mind walking around in and slapping those puppies on until you go to bed. Whether you leave them on or not is up to you. Personally I can't handle socks in my sleep. But if you can, it might be better.
3. Stay Hydrated
This may seem silly but this is incredibly important. As read in a previous post, you can physically "look" thirsty By not drinking enough water, it will slowly start to show through your skin. By staying hydrated, you can avoid the appearance the commonly feared "Winter Alligator Skin." Not to say that it will completely cure it but it will definitely be of assistance. This along with moisturizing will be your best friend. Important Note: by this I am referring to drinking WATER that doesn't mean to double up on your juice or soda intake which will only lead you to a little scary thing called cellulite and we all know, that's not cute baby.
Okay so now you guys know a few of my secrets on how to maintain beautiful radiant skin through the winter months. I hope these can help you guys achieve that beautiful glow despite the weather. Let me know if you guys would like a more in depth blog on my DIY masks.
Stay cute !
xoxo
