The site claims to be a government website and mentions that the Centre will be providing a financial aid of Rs. 50,000 to ration card holders under this new. The website claims to be a pilot project which is started by the Indian government along with the World Bank to help the country to manage the financial crisis occurring due to coronavirus pandemic. It says the scheme is only for the first 40,000 applicants and the money will be transferred online. The website also sought personal details for registration and a fee of Rs. 250 as 'account verification charge'. The central government, however, has not launched any such scheme. The website is not active now but the archived version of the website can be seen here.
People on social media started sharing about the website with false claims.
TRUTH
The Indian government has not launched this website. The claim of providing financial aid to ration card holders is also false. No such scheme has been launched by the government. On 26th March 2020, a relief package worth Rs. 1.7 crore was announced by The Centre to help the poor affected by the COVID-19 outbreak. With this information, a fake website was generated with false claims. The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has also clarified about the same and asked people to be cautious of such falsified websites that ask for one's personal information and money. The tweet has been archived here. The website was carefully designed with emblems and logo including RTI. According to Domain Tools, this website was created on December 18, 2019 and was registered with "GoDaddy.com".
However, the government has another website called "rsby.gov.in", but this is an official website for providing health insurance to the poor and the scheme is called 'Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojna' which isn’t the same as this fake website called 'rsby.org'. Read the full article
