Question:
I work at this retail job and the people I work with are people who I would never talk to outside work. So I have to be fake nice to them and their red flags but its so draining & tiring. How do I deal with this?

Ew.
How you treat people you don't care for says far more about your character than how you treat the ones you do.
So many people claim to be a nice person, but their basic human decency only extends to those they deem acceptable.
The only reason the phrase "nice guys finish last" exists, is because it was created by people with false illusions of being pleasant. The truth is truly nice people finish quite well.

Iβm probably one of the nicest persons youβll ever meet, but I donβt like when people are fake nice only during holiday season. Kindness goes a long way, and we all should be nice to each other year around.

Fake Nice - The Aces
I MET THE ACES: a thread.
(Adapted from my Twitter, which is why it reads like a thread lol.)
Preface: I got super lucky that The Aces came to Germany when they did. Since I happen to be in the country for the year, I just had to go and see them perform. (Artists from the US never come to SA, sigh)
So I spent a third of my paycheck on train tickets and accommodation. I travelled seven hours by train to Munich on Monday, checked into my hotel, and made my way to the venue. To my surprise, I was the first person there.
So I waited around for a few hours, since I wasnβt about to let the chance to be first through the door (and possibly meet them when they arrived!) slip away just because it was cold and I felt awkward.
We interrupt this thread to give a shoutout to @thenextwaveismineΒ for keeping me company on the phone while I was sitting there all alone, hyping me up for the concert and assuring me that I wasnβt a crazy stalker.
ANYWAY so after like two hours, Cristal and Alisa just casually walk up to the venue. Like, on foot. Just... walk around the corner suddenly, like they weren't changing my life just by exisiting in the same space as me. (I am so DAMN GAY for Cristal Ramirez, people.)
I was so shocked I couldnβt move, I just stared. Cristal made eye contact with me and smiled kind of awkwardly - I, of course, nearly fainted - and then they went inside with one of the guys who were setting up.
I spent a few minutes hating myself for not talking to them, but then Alisa came out again and I got her to sign my Aces hat! We had a short conversation, she asked my name and where Iβm from. They both came out again later, and I got Cristal to sign my hat too. She asked my name, repeated it three times (my poor bi heart could not handle it) because itβs difficult to pronounce in English, and apologized for not stopping to talk earlier, βIβm sorry, I wasnβt sure what I was supposed to do,β and she kind of giggled and I kind of died.
Let me tell yβall something about Cristal: sheβs hot as fuck, which we all know, but in person she is such a damn dork. Sheβs so soft and sweet and ugh I love her.
Also, Cristal: "You're here early."Β Me: "Yeah, I'm a big fan and this is kind of once in a lifetime for me." Cristal: *the absolute cutest smile I've ever seen*Β
After they went back inside, some other fans finally showed up and I felt less awkward. We just hung out for a while, discussing mutual interests like The Aces and Hayley Kiyoko, before Katie and McKenna showed up in a taxi.
I held out my hat to McKenna to sign and the next thing I know Iβm being pulled into a hug. Katie kept saying they were running late, but they still took the time to hug everyone who was there and both signed my hat.
Also, Katie: βThank you for coming! Or should I say Danke schΓΆn?β Me: βIβm actually from South Africa, English is fine.β Katie: βOh wow, thank you for coming!β
The final result, and my most prized possession:
The show was amazing, I was right up front in the middle and I have a feeling I might be posting a separate thread of that later, but this was my view:
After the show, we waited around in hopes that they would come out again to take pictures - and they did! They were so sweet and patient, there was no rush, they talked to everyone, took pictures and signed merch. They are all so genuinely sweet and nice by the way, I love them.
Hereβs me having them say hi to @thenextwaveismineΒ on a video call:
And hereβs my group picture. I canβt believe I really got to meet The Aces in real actual life! Like, I talked to them. I touched them. I hugged them. I had my arm around Cristal frickinβ Ramirez. How? It seems like it was a dream.
After the picture I spoke to them for a little while, McKenna and Alisa asked about my travels and life in South Africa, Cristal was on vocal rest so she didnβt talk lol, and Katie was just so sweet. I also got them to sign my vinyl.
All in all I honestly had the best night, I was so happy and excited the entire time, and the show was such a memorable experience. Look how close I was!
I travelled another six hours by train back home on Tuesday, and today Iβm back at work. But Iβm one happy girlie, and Iβll never forget it! I just love them so much, and it was so so so great to get to see them perform and meet them.
TL;DR I met The Aces and Iβm super fucking happy about it.
