You were only five-years-old when you were named the Duke/Duchess of the Fairwinds. Your father's death was at the anonymous hand of another Duchy, and your grief-stricken mother acted as regent until you came of age. Your inheritance is a gift, but its vulnerability is a curse. You rely on the power of your wit, and the charisma you exude. You seek to protect the harmonious land that raised you, and the political unrest leaves you turning to unpaved roads to secure your borders.
The reigning Duke oversees the expansive meadows of the Fairwinds. The protector of the realm and a nurturing force, they understand that the Fairwindsâ strength comes from their prosperity. Still - much is needed to survive the troubling times, and it is up to the Duchy to balance the needs of the realm.
Biography (TW: Miscarriage, Murder)
What poetic irony it was, that a prosperous land like the Fairwinds would be without an heir apparent for ten long years. The land of abundance, felt their gilded seat lacking in a succession plan. Lord Antoine De Leon and his new wife, Maria, always understood their obligation to the people of the Fairwinds. But the desire for a child, was rooted in their own hearts. The infamous âlove matchâ of Antoine and Maria was a point of great curiosity for their fellow Dukedoms. A tale of a spry, mature Duke and a gentle woman of modest descent. They overcame convention, and chose love. By design, an abundance of children would be sure to follow. As was the way of Fairytales. But the years dragged on, and each Spring harvest, the forlorn faces of the Fairwinderâs grew even drearier. The future of La Tierra Ventosa, hinged upon the continued legacy of the De Leonâs. Beloved by the land for their peacekeeping and communal ways, the vulnerability of it all made many heads uneasy.
Ten years of miscarriages, visits to the coveted healers of the Sacred Wood, and the mages of Sandspell later - the Duchess gave birth to a healthy baby boy. Aptly named Javier, after his grandfather, he was to forge the next generation of Fairwind nobility. A hard fought culmination, to the De Leonâs Fairytale. Life; however, does not abide by the rules of folklore and myth. The Kingdom of Ashbourne was not the ethos of peace and prosperity it appeared to be. Peace between the Dukedoms hung by the most precarious of threads, and the ambitious spirit that first waged the Great War was not extinguished. After all, a land of abundance was equated to one of grand prosperity - and who wouldnât want to take that from the kind-hearted De Leonâs? It happened in the dead of a Winterâs night. The reigning Lord Antoine hosted a grand feast, in celebration of his sonâs fifth birthday. He toasted the hardworking residents of La Tierra Ventosa, and wished for his son a long and prosperous rule. Irony, once again, claiming the joy on the House of De Leon. Red wine touched his lips, and minutes later, the crowd was aghast to watch his skin turned pale. Blood-red eyes turned still, as the well-loved Duke passed onto the After.
At five-years-old, Javier De Leon was made the eleventh Duke of the Fairwinds. With only his mother as his closest surviving family - she occupied the station of âregentâ throughout his childhood. Inexperienced in diplomacy, trade, or leadership - Lady Maria did her best to be both regent to the Fairwinds, and mother to her son. It was evident; however, that Javierâs childhood would not be one of games and ease. He needed to learn, and learn quickly. As a young boy, Javier would sit in on council meetings and paid tribute to the farmlands. Never mind that he was just a boy, grieving the loss of his father and the loss of a childhood all in one. This was his legacy, and a De Leon understood the magnitude of that. It was clear from the onset, that Javierâs was not a mind steeled for aptitude or literary pursuits. Talk of numbers or laws bored him to no end, though he did his best to tolerate it as par for the course. No, his skill came with influence. He inherited his fatherâs charisma, emotional intelligence, and awe-inspiring nobility. A trait that earned him the respect and adulation of his people, even with his limited experience.
Even his fellow Dukedoms, who had written the De Leonâs off as a fledgling dynasty, could not deny Javierâs growing popularity and influence. A golden lion with an instinct for action and a heart of gold - a picture of his fallen father. By sixteen, Javier was primed for his title, and his motherâs long-anticipated step down from regency followed thereafter. And so, the early rise of Javier De Leon, second of his name, came upon La Tierra Ventosa. The years that followed were that of learning, and relearning his role as the reigning Duke. It was one thing to be a beloved young man, quite another to sink your teeth into the political landscape of Ashbourne. As the Dukedom that provides all crops, livestock, and wine to Ashbourne - theirs was a triumph, economically. A reality that Javier treated with great care, ensuring thoughtful trade agreements in exchange for coveted agreements. But any astute leader can feel the change in the air, and the debilitating nature of yields these past few years. But whatever the change - the early riser will ensure another dawn for the Fairwinds.
+ Passionate: The fragility of life was impressed upon Javier at an early age. His fatherâs death, a stark reminder of his own mortality. But more importantly - his own, beating pulse. It makes for a rose-tinted view of the world, one fueled with passion and intensity. Javier is a man that refuses to live in half-measures. He loathes fiercely, loves tenderly, and defends his inherited legacy as if it was his own life. Because truly, wasnât it his whole life?
+ Responsible: The first of his generation to succeed a seat at a coveted Dukedom, he was a Duke first, a man second. Such impressions are hard to forget, least of all at only five-years-old. But it was an important lesson, one that made Javier dutiful and professional. He is regimented in his days, refusing to shirk his responsibility in favor of an easier path. While his is not a head for numbers or laws, he is generous with his time - often spent socializing and engaging the people who made the Fairwinds the powerhouse that it was.
- Mercurial: An impassioned heart is a reckless one, but Javier only ever saw joy and prosperity come from one. A blind-spot created by his fatherâs overwhelming legacy, he is prone to thinking his passions as the proper path. But what lays beneath, is a mercurial habit. An ever-changing and often inconsistent mindset. Quick to pledge allegiance to one, and then another, within the same sun rise.
- Dependent: The wise minds of his inner-Dukedom were key to his rule. Days spent as a young man, clinging onto the words of those who knew better. A wise Duke listened, or so he was told. Itâs a habit that, well into his thirties, is not easily dismissed. Perhaps it had to do with the absence of his father, or the weight of his rule - but Javier is dependent by nature. Always looking to the approval, companionship, and support of those he considers friends and trusted advisors.
