THE BOAT THAT ROCKED THE SWING - M/Y FAIRWEI BY GRAY DESIGN
Built on a strong belief in good proportion and harmonious design, Eduard Gray has built up a design studio based in Sweden that has captured the imaginations of automotive and marine enthusiasts from around the world.
As an award winning international design studio the focus is strongly engrained on innovative and highly characteristic industrial design. The studio love good ideas and have a knack in packaging them into striking designs that balance proportion, function and fluidity.
Amidst Gray Design's mind blowing design projects is one in particular that stands out and is worthy of attention. The Fairway super yacht. Pushing boundaries with making the big blue the new green, the project was born out of the rising interest in Asia for yachts that are designed for being a meeting and recreational place rather than just a seagoing vessel.
Incorporating the wonderful sport of golf into this design ensures that the owners and users can get the most out of their time on the yacht. The large open areas of the deck allow plenty of space to practice your short game and the spacious tee area on top of the yacht allow for the best drives in the world.
Who better to call on to maximise on this space is no-one other than PGA Member and trainer to the VIPs, Francis Jacquelin of Golf & Yacht. Swinging biodegradable golf balls off your luxury super yacht is most certainly an art and no-one does it better than the master himself, who is not unfamiliar with the most discerning clients and super yacht owners worldwide.
"The Fairwei draws parallels to the game of golf where players pursue greater levels of perfection, refinement and experience. It therefore has appointments of pleasant green areas to create an enhanced environment of relaxation, a tee off point to practice drives above the flydeck, while the deck at the side and aft have chipping and putting greens to work on the short game. The interior has been kept minimalistic and uses simplistic colour schemes together with crystal embellishments to add a touch of the ethereal. An indoor swimming pool and spa division create the perfect calm for unwinding and feeling refreshed." -- Eduard Gray
Focusing on the luxury market has allowed Gray Design to develop designs that are more outrageous and exclusive because the design has to appeal to a much smaller clientele than with any other mass productions . The team behind the masterpieces believe in the eternal beauty of good proportions and the energy that comes from exciting curves and surfaces.
The right environment is essential for nuturing an idea into a finished product, and these Swedes sure have got their priorities right and are worthy of our attention.
