Heavy Heart – Bed Bug

I introduced London-based indie-poppers Heavy Heart on FAR in October 2016 in a feature and interview with singer Anna (http://fadeawayradiate.com/2016/10/meeting-heavy-heart). Today they share a new, excellent track called “Bed Bug” which is the first of 3 tracks mixed and co-produced by Gabe Wax who also produced The War On Drugs, Fleet Foxes and Soccer Mommy.

“Bed Bug” starts off like a steady classic indie stomper from the 90’s in the style of Juliana Hatfield, then plunges into a soaring bittersweet chorus full of heartache and introspection over a backdrop of shimmering strings, lamenting “Time after time it feels the same to me /Why the change of heart? / It’s good enough for tonight / Say you might”. Think of a slightly more morose Japanese Breakfast. Anna‘s lyrics are outstanding as always and very relatable (well, at least to me).

Anna on “Bed Bug“: “Bed Bug” is a nocturnal love song exploring obsession and lethargy, sex, blood and dirty sheets. It’s about staying in bed all day and staying awake all night, feeling your skin crawl and your nerves itch. It’s also about the beauty and agony of loving someone to the point of self-destruction; picking the wounds open again just to feel the way it felt the first time”.

Heavy Heart have come a long way since the early bedroom-recording days, and have received widespread praise throughout the online community (NME, The Line Of Best Fit) and across the airwaves (BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, Radio X) by now. We will continue the support here!
