Fachan

RARITY: ★★★☆☆ | THREAT: ★★★★☆ SIZE: Horse-sized.

HABITAT: 

Typically avoid populated areas and stick to forests and meadows.

OVERVIEW: 

Often described as ‘one half of a human being,’ fachans are hulking fae with a single eye in the middle of their faces, a single hand protruding from their torsos, and a single leg emerging from their central axis. They have a single tuft of hair atop their heads, though it is coarser than human hair with a texture more like metal wire and incredibly difficult to bend or manipulate. They have large, rounded ears that are about the same size as their heads. Fachans are known to be incredibly self conscious and often react violently if they feel they’re being judged for their ugliness. They will protect their pride by lashing out at someone they believe may spread word of their foul appearance to others. Because of the level of insecurity they possess, they often assume anyone who looks at them falls into this category, and will attack accordingly. They are capable of speech, and may beg a victim not to tell anyone how ugly they are while they attack.

ABILITIES: 

Despite only having one leg with which to hop around on, fachans are incredibly agile and move in a way that’s almost akin to dancing. They can be hard to get a hold of.

It is believed that a fachan can kill a person with a touch, absorbing the person’s flesh into their own skin and causing a messy, painful demise.

Some fachans are so ugly that someone may grow ill simply by looking at them, but this does not apply to every fachan. Just the especially hideous ones!

WEAKNESS: 

A fachan’s insecurity can be used against them. If you force them to gaze upon their own reflection, they will become too distraught to continue lashing out and run away to hide in shame. 

Inversely, if you can convince a fachan you think they’re beautiful, they won’t attack you. They will follow you around for some time afterwards demanding compliments, however, so this can be a risky play.

Like all fae, they are weak to iron, but attacking them directly can be risky. Most wardens try to keep a distance when using iron so the fachan can’t touch them before the iron works.

Faebruary Day 9~ Fachan

Fachan is a one eyed, one armed, and one legged goblin, that lives in isolated areas. It will harm anyone that traverses on his land, and he is dressed in a matted feathery cloak. He’s also described as gross, so I tried to depict him in that way.

Faebruary 17th - Fachan

In Scottish folklore the fachan is a monster or giant described by John Francis Campbell in Popular Tales of the West Highlands as having a single eye in the middle of its face, a single hand protruding from its chest instead of arms, and a single leg emerging from its central axis. It has a single tuft of hair on the top of its head, regarding which Campbell says "it were easier to take a mountain from the root than to bend that tuft."
