Quick Note on: Coins as Signs
Why do my deities always send me coins from their countries?? What's up with that? Always when they've fully embraced me.
To be clear, the coins don't just *fall from the sky*. I've collected random coins over the years as long as they are different from dollars and escudos, but I don't really try to differentiate between, say, the imagery in the euros; a euro is a special coin and automatically goes with my other magpie shinies in the jar. But then when I start a devotional practice with a deity, the coin MAKES itself found. Mind you! They live in a container I open maybe every couple of years.
In the past I've found a 50 euro cent coin on the floor in my house with "Éire" (Ireland) written on it and harp imagery when I asked BrÃd to bring me a part of Ireland for my altar after my devotion to her really picked up; mind you, I've never been to Ireland and it's been many years since I visited Europe AND there were no other coins in my stash from there.
Fast forward to tonight, just now. I was going through my coins to find gifts for trading at a Samhain gathering after an incredible day of reciprocity with Hermes, I find a 1 euro coin with "EYP0" on it with an owl and what appears to be olive leaves. It gave me pause and I was like, "are you freaking kidding me", *eyes my altar like Hermes is physically there*, and then I go "oh you." Again, no other coins from Greece in my stash and I've never been to Greece.
Other things of note: how does it connect to the lore of that deity? (Just what sticks out to me immediately)
- BrÃd comes from a culture where there's often lore about coins related to the Good Neighbors
- Hermes, god of trade and merchants (money) as one of his epithets. This coin was also found in relation to something I was doing with him in mind (trading and community building with diverse practices)
Special coins just always seem to find me when a deity embraces me. Sharing this as I think it's a realistic way that signs may be cent (ha! sorry) to some folks.
