One thing I've noticed about myself since working with Hermes is the return of one of the first traits I developed in adulthood out of survival, which is to honor my strong instinct of saying a kind word that I think needs to be said when it needs to be said, at all costs.
If I miss someone that may not reciprocate, I still feel like I must say it because life is so short and I would want them to know that in the end.
If I cross paths with a stranger and I sense something off about their state of mind where something I say may make their whole day better, then I will say it no matter what my social anxiety thinks.
It very much feels like embodying The Fool energy (Tarot), communication facilitation, as well as traveller relations. Makes me think of a post on here about how the followers of the Theoi tend to embody their traits, and I think that's a beautiful thing.
Does Hermes generally amplify positive emotions for everyone to the point of overwhelm or am I just now experiencing ✨religion✨?
Giver of Joy indeed.
Love when I’m sitting in a parking lot trying to calm down after some asshole in a truck yells and curses at me and then I see a sign I associate with Hermes, immediately followed by the same truck getting pulled over.
Nobody has my back like Hermes.
Quick Notes: Tarot Cards associated with Hermes
Depending on the context of the reading, any card can be associated with anything, and different cards may have the same meaning or mean different things to different people; but that's not super helpful in developing associations, is it? With that in mind, this list is based off of cards that not only jump out in imagery, but also in meaning using the Rider-Waite system in my opinion. I'm very new to my devotion to Hermes but pretty experienced in tarot, and it has been my primary method of communing with deities in the past. This list is subject to updates as I learn more about Hermes, and later on I may also make a follow-up explaining the reason each card was picked.
Major Arcana
Matched with some of Hermes' epithets in English.
(0) The Fool: Guileless, Glad-Hearted.
(1) The Magician: Of Crafts/ Of Wiles, Messenger of the Blessed, Master of Dreams.
(7) The Chariot: Busy One, Messenger of the Gods, Of Road Intersections.
(9) The Hermit: Guide, Shepherd, Interpreter.
(10) Wheel of Fortune: Luck-Bringing, Wily/Many-Turning, Messenger/Herald.
(19) The Sun: Giver of Joy and Good Things, Bright One.
Cards I kept going back and forth on: The Hanged Man and The Lovers. Ultimately, I decided it didn't resonate enough, and that in case of The Lovers, 2 of Cups felt stronger in imagery while arguably carrying the same meaning. As for The Hanged Man, I found the same meaning in several other cards where the imagery resonates much more.
Minor Arcana
Ace of Pentacles
2 of Pentacles
3 of Pentacles
6 of Pentacles
7 of Pentacles
8 of Pentacles
9 of Pentacles
Ace of Wands
3 of Wands
5 of Wands
8 of Wands
Honestly, an argument can be made for all of the Suit of Pentacles, but these ones feel more obvious to me. The only reason I did not include 6 of Wands was because I felt that The Sun resonated more. I considered 7 of Wands, but I felt that 5 of Wands was stronger.
Ace of Swords
4 of Swords
6 of Swords
7 of Swords
2 of Cups
8 of Cups
Notice how many "mundane" cards are on this list? Exactly what I would expect from the Friend of Man.
Court Cards
Page of Pentacles
King of Pentacles
Page of Wands
King of Wands
Knight of Swords
Page of Swords
Page of Cups
I kept going back and forth on the Knight of Cups due to the obvious imagery, but I ultimately decided that wasn't enough for me.

Here, I thank the Friend of Man. Great communicator and governor of my tongue. He who gives temperance to my conversations. He who gives me observant gaze, who tells me 'hey, listen to this' in moments of pivotal words being exchanged.
He who perks my ears up when seemingly innocuous speech is flowing. Who drops bits of information for me to pick up. He who gives me wise counsel with a wry smile. Who pings my mind when to read between the lines in someone's words.
How many times have I walked by just to hear life-altering speech? How many times has the moment been just right for me to enter, for my words to pull just so from someone's lips? How the mood has been perfect for idled honesty when before there was none? When someone else's phone notification gave me warning, just when they leave it with me?
I thank you, Hermes. For watching over me, and giving me what information I need to make educated movements forward. I walk with as much grace as I can muster because of you.
Hermes is such a comfort to me. He’s such a sweetheart and so gentle. And he never fails to make me smile. 😊
