If you're curious about Modiphius's 2d20, it's a success-counting system, as in you roll 2d20s (or more, depending) and try to hit over a target derived from your character stats, and then count how many of the d20s were "successes" over that target. The way characters are constructed, the results feel a little more cinematic than WotC's d20 system, and better at allowing partial success or success at a cost. Modiphius technically doesn't have a published OGL, they're a UK company and they're still working on how to do that right with UK, US, and EU laws, so licenses are granted on a case-by-case basis. However, from what I understand, they're really pleasant to work with as far as requesting a license to publish stuff under 2d20, very encouraging and "yes and" instead of trying to squeeze you for profits.
Thanks for the clarification! The system sounds interesting, and while I want to try some other systems first, I'll certainly try to remember to check this out.
