There are no words strong enough to describe how much I hate the ignorant argument some people make about how "you can't love a fictional character because you've never met them", or the likening it to a celebrity crush.
Why? Because, due to a clear lack of experience with having any kind of emotional bond with a fictional character, these arguments fail to see the point.
Yes, logically, one cannot fall in love with a person they've never met, such as a stranger you actually know nothing about. Or, a celebrity whose life is glamorized and who you also don't actually know anything personal about.
But a fictional character? Who's life and character development (and pretty much every detail about them) is laid out right in front of you? Who, due to that, you can get to know extremely well, to the point of being able to analyze their characterization enough to have others reproduce it perfectly through fanfiction?
Who, you might even grow up beside, keeping up with them and every turn their life takes them, just as you would a good friend?
How then, is it not possible to fall in love with someone who seems so real and familiar?
