The End of Sitting -Â RAAAF & Barbara Visser
What would your office be like if you removed all the desks and chairs and replaced them with a series of multifunctional, ergonomic forms that demanded a different kind of use? Well Barbara Visser has intended to explore that very question. Working in collaboration with Dutch design studio RAAAF, they have produced an office where nobody sits and instead must perch themselves, stand, lean on or even lie on the forms that have replaced the everyday commonplace features of our office interiors.Â
Too much sitting is bad for your health she says, so The End of Sitting is conceived as a space where sitting is but one option available. The prototype pictured above was installed at Looiersgracht 60 - a new exhibition space in Amsterdam - and a collection of participants were asked to enter the space and use it as they saw fit.Â
Not sure if this is the most productive reinvention of the office model, but it's sure to trigger discussion! A publication outlining the results of this experiment will be released in the new year.
