Rollinia’s are doing well. Love experiencing new sprouts. They each grow differently and have their own needs. It’s been amazing getting to know them all through trial and error. Another new addition to our food forest/ living seed bank is this Black Sapote (Diospyros Nigra) tree. It’s actually a species of a persimmon. Common names include chocolate pudding fruit, black soapapple and zapote prieto. Mango seeds come in two types, monoembryonic and polyembryonic. As the prefixes indicate, one type has one embryo, and the other has multiple embryos. Monoembryonic mango seeds are not going to grow true to the parent fruit, but a polyembryonic mango seed will most likely grow true and have the same characteristics and flavor as the mother plant. These 3 sprouts came from one tiny little “Mango Ti Bozo” seed. We made what I think was a pretty fair deal this past guava season. Leave them to ripen on the tree so that we would have the best seeds possible to plant and in exchange, they get to carry as many guava trees home to plant as possible.
