still in wip city. doing research.
if you see executioner gyro as cool and hot, i recommend watching The Act of Killing by Joshua Oppenheimer. my fav scene is when two former executioners recreate a pre-execution scene, and the one playing the victim suddenly starts suffocating from shock. he asks a film crew to stop.
i suppose executioners can execute only because of their lack of social imagination, with which they could mentally recreate emotions of people they harm. this job is a misery
the cautious friendship probably started when the haughtiest priest at the chapel comments on something which pisses gyro off. gyro retaliates, and is quickly reminded of his place in the hierarchy of the church. during the reprimand locks eyes with the quietly nosy swiss guard watching from behind his critic. after the confrontation, he approaches the observer, who is now slightly nervous because the very tall, scarcely viewed executioner-in-training is striding towards him menacingly. however, the guard quickly realizes he can relate to this man because of their backgrounds in heavy training and subservience to the crown - only in different uniforms and wielding different weapons. gyro is also relieved to meet someone in this vast, sombre compound who is not only his own age, but shares a strange sense of humor and distaste for that annoying priest. gyro travels often, mainly for work, but he always tries to say a few words to the guard when on duty at the chapel. sometimes they get glares from the pious when the guard laughs a little too loud above a whisper. one day, after around 6 months without an interaction, the guard hears some of his peers talking in hushed tones about the death of their fellow wekapipo, who had been in america. in the same conversation, another person mentioned that he’d heard the son of the head executioner was also in that country. the guard asked if there was any other information, but was told that gregorio was very private and nobody knows exactly.
