one eye closes and shoulders hunch as lightning ruffles his thick hair. now it’s even messier than usual and looks like he had been sleeping in the barn again. her usual-gruff voice sounds almost…softer…than usual. it sounds like she actually cares. oscar blinks as her icy blue eyes seem to pierce right into his as she presses the smooth handle of a knife into his hands

he looks down in shock at the weapon. the teen wordless pulls the blade from the handle and examines its curved edge. lips twitch upward into a smile as he conceals the blade again. it strange how much safer he feels have a sharp weapon instead of just the cane. if he needs to get away quickly, he actually as the means to. he actually feels like the supposed chosen one he’s supposed to be.

before he lost weight: prompto’s eating habits prior to meeting noctis were dismal, and we see this reflected in his episode of brotherhood. immediately prior to learning to eat healthy, he was more inclined to eat fast food, with his favorites being hamburgers. his father was gone often during his later childhood, and prompto was left to fend for himself – without much technical know-how for cooking ( and his father was worse than he is ), he didn’t have much of a choice but to go for fast food, pizza, and otherwise unhealthy microwave dinners. 

while a lot of this is largely attributed to not having his father there for much guidance in eating healthy, his unhealthy eating was also caused by more emotional reasons. prompto’s weight gain started shortly after he turned ten, and he turned to food to cope with some rougher instances of bullying he faced from classmates. often compared to a niff due to his appearance, he found comfort from teasing in food, which unfortunately led to a more rapid weight gain. his father, being somewhat of a pushover who just waned to make prompto happy, didn’t interfere. 

after noctis’s comment: let it be known – prompto lost weight for HIMSELF. while his relationship with food had led to further teasing, noctis’s comment about him being heavy ( while not said in a teasing manner ), hurt prompto deeply. he realized he wasn’t happy with how he looked and how he felt, and he decided that wasn’t the kind of person who should befriend the prince. he didn’t want to be unhappy, and he didn’t want to be self conscious in his own skin, so he worked hard over the course of three years to lose weight.

while he still indulged himself from time to time, prompto’s eating habits did a 180. he often went to the library after his runs in order to borrow cookbooks, and TAUGHT himself how to cook proper meals – while he’s certainly not ignis level, he is a pretty decent cook though he likes to pretend he’s not ( less work for him if he pretends he’d set the kitchen on fire ). while he does still indulge in food that’s not good for him, it’s done so carefully, with the intent that he’s going to enjoy it, but not seek comfort in it. 

       "'course you can! once you get over the smallest things, eventually you can get a little used to it until you know you can get better." vanille still kept her sweet smile. after spending her time with lightning for the longest, she has come to notice her behavior, her habits. she had such a reputation to not make a mistake if she had to when doing her job. and becoming a l’cie was one mistake that was unintentional.
