Ilithid in an ill-looking fit . As I was walking away from putting this 7ft cardboard figure up, a middle-aged lady pulled up in her SUV in the middle of the road and asked if I was just taking pictures or if I’d drawn it. I hesitated a moment then admitted to having drawn it, expecting a scolding. Instead she told me that it was ‘neat’ and asked if it was an octopus. After telling her ‘kinda like an octopus’ she thanked me, re-iterated the ‘neat’ness of it, and drove off into the sunset. Neon Spiny Orb-Weaver Gasteracantha Neongenesis . The Neon Spiny Orb-Weaver gets its name not from the colouration of its hardened, shell-like abdomen but rather from that of its webbing. This species of Orb-Weaver secretes a colourful pigment in its webbing which, when exposed to sunlight, glows a vivid neon colour. The colouring of these pigments change over time, starting with a vibrant neon pink in the first few hours of the web being built before taking on more of an neon-orange hue, followed by neon-yellow before losing colour altogether.
