[AL: Schuyler was sentenced to two years in Kingston Penitentiary on the 27th. It was his second time in the penitentiary, and he had also been in the reformatory before. Schuyler was 24, unemployed since his release from prison and staying at the SA hostel, from the Munsee-Delaware First Nation, and listed as Oneida on his reception card at the prison. He was convict #7114 at Kingston Penitentiary, worked mostly in excavation then the mail bags, and was released in mid-1944, heading back to London, Ontario. He would soon be convicted for another armed robbery and returned to the penitentiary.]

Walsh appeared before Magistrate Cohen, and there explained that being released from Kingston he had the balance of his railway ticket, which would take him to his home in St. Thomas. He was instructed to go anywhere outside the city limits.

[AL: Staley was born in Kitchener, moved to Chippawa, near Niagara Falls, and had worked and lived in Welland, as well. He was 30 at the time of this sentence, and serving in the Welland Lincoln Regiment in the Canadian Active Service Force. He had previously been in Kingston Penitentiary from 1939 to 1940, and had also been in the reformatory three times since the early 1930s. One half of his sentence here was for ‘a serious offence’ - his prison records indicate this was actually ‘buggery’ i.e. sex with a man, and apparently consensual, though the other man was not charged as was often the case in these investigations.  At Kingtson Penitentiary, he was convict #6539 and he worked mostly in the shoe shop, and was something of a ‘wise guy’ in the shop - he got in trouble a few times for inappropriate language and so forth. He was released in August 1943 to Toronto. He would go back to the Penitentiary at least once more in 1944.]
