Itâs been a long, cold year since the dragon hunt. Geralt is used to being alone, that's what he tells himself, and heâd managed just fine before he met Jaskier. He could manage just fine now heâd pushed him away.
Still, itâs a relief to head back to Kaer Morhen when the winter arrives, knowing that heâll have company for a while. Even if that company is a pack of cantankerous old witchers, theyâre his pack. He feels a weight lift off his chest when he sees the crumbling old towers appear in the distance, and every step closer lets him breathe more easily.
He pushes open the keepâs great gate and heads for the main hall, expecting to find Vesemir and perhaps Eskel and CoĂŤn. Instead, he finds Lambert, splayed across a high-backed chair like a throne, with Jaskier sat in his lap feeding him grapes.
âWhat,â Geralt growls, âthe fuck.â
Jaskier gives him a smug look but keeps his mouth shut for once. Lambert smirks like this is the best thing thatâs ever happened to him. âGeralt, old man!â he says. âHow good of you to join us. Jaskier here came looking for you, so Iâve been keeping him company. You know how it is here, the keep does get awfully cold at night.â
Jaskier giggles, actually fucking giggles, and buries his face into Lambertâs neck. Geralt feels light headed.
âWhat do you think, my little bard?â Lambert coos at Jaskier. âShall we let Geralt here stay with us, or should we send him away like he did to you?â
Jaskier turns an assessing eye on Geralt. Geralt feels a bead of sweat slip down the back of his neck. âI suppose he can stay,â Jaskier decrees, like heâs the goddamn lord of the witchers. âBut heâll have to find a way to make it up to me.â Jaskierâs eyes glint with mischief. âTo both of us.â
