Our present era brought us very far compare way back prehistoric era in which their means of communication was through engraving figures of their life, important events happened, battles and the like on the caves to stones to tablets to walls.

According to the documentary films we watched, communication has existed in various forms and evolved from stone to web. Early handwritten documents were made in sometime after the Early Communication Methods, developed to Printing Press by Johann Gutenberg, letter writings and post mails popularised by the Americans, evolved to telegraphs, to telephones, then to radio, to televisions, cellphones, internet, and finally to social media sites.

“Change is constant” that was the words that we always hear from other people. Basically, there are many things that are susceptible to changes, innovations and evolution. And, one of them is what we know, communication.

As we dig deeper to our stock knowledge about  communication history, we primarily envision the time of “Flintstone” (a caveman in a cartoon character) where all of the people out there were having difficult time, dealing with communication towards each other - Indeed, the beginning of all communication phases.

In terms of the evolution of communication, Cavemen paintings, ancient tablets and stone inscribing marks the existence of communication. The documentary or the videos, itself, help us understand the situation of many people, dwelling with their own way of communicating to each other. As what I’ve said a while ago, Cavemen arts and crafts, became the oldest form of communication. But, as time passes by, that form of communication has been enhanced, innovated and evolved for people’s convenience and versatility.

The smoke signals, “pony mailing”, semaphore flags and many more, were just some forms of communication created because of its evolution. The evolution of communication remain visible to us because of dividing those various styles of it as time passes by - in short, we are keeping it on track - The PRE-MECHANICAL (776 BCE), mostly cavemen paintings and inscribing - The MECHANICAL (1840), includes printing press and telegraphs - The ELECTROMECHANICAL (1999), using typewriters, telephones, basic photography and radio signals as methods of conveying messages - And, the DIGITAL ERA (21st century) that involves the usage of smartphones, social networks and high technology products as ways of building efficient, innovative and convenient communication across the globe.

About the film, It is so useful and helpful for me because of the informations that were presented. A lot of informations were gathered and summarized to be presented for the learning of the class. It is useful especially for us, who are not aware in the evolution of communication.
