i haven’t started them for Arthur’s siblings ngl, as i was centered on the us/can/aus/nz sibling quartet. and yes! your ideas are very similar to mine and @draw-a-circle-thats-the-foxhole‘s headcanons. here’s our idea of matt: 

(the Brooklyn 99 FMA AU)

I think Jake ends up mortally wounded, but Rosa and Amy reach him in time and fake his death, hide him away and bury an empty casket and try to buy time to catch his killer by making them complacent.

The death I’d really milk for all it was worth here would be Terry’s, who in this AU would have been a soldier in Ishval who actually managed to get well out of the army because he couldn’t take it.  Everyone in his unit (he was part of Rosa’s non-alchemist soldier support) adored him, especially after he was given a field promotion following the death of their sergeant.  On the other hand, absolutely everyone knew that he was honestly just too gentle at heart for military life.  So when he was offered a promotion and a cushy desk job after the war, no one was surprised when he declined and went home to his family’s farm instead.

He meets a traveler and falls stupid in love with her, and they get married the very next year, and Sharon, immortal and strong and an alchemist of rare skill and power, loves her husband with her entire heart.  He can pick her up in one arm and listens raptly when she talks about science, even though he doesn’t follow half of it, and he kisses her palms and tells her she’s kind and honorable and good even though she knows she’s not.  Seeing him asleep on the floor with their daughters on his chest is the most joy she’s ever felt in her long life.

Leaving--even to save a country, even to save thousands upon thousands of people--is the hardest thing she’s ever done.  But Terry kisses her and swears up and down that he’ll be there with their babies when she’s done, when they’re all safe.

Sharon comes home.

There's a theory in small parts of the asoiaf fandom that think that Meera is Jon Snow's twin sister and that they are secret targaryens together. Not sure I believe it

This is a decision that is entirely up to you. Weigh things like what it would do to your story, what tension it would add, what kinds of things would no longer be feasible due to age.

I don’t know that having them be younger makes any of them dying any more or less traumatic, so I don’t really think that’s you’re issue, here.

Especially the first season!!! They both have succh a strong and tight crews, even if they sometimes don’t agree on everything... Of course, and then there’s the smuggling, and the fact they are outside this oppressive regime - it really calls back to that Firefly!!!
