Mirror Mirror (1990)
Decided to take a big step to get my skin picking under control. The stress of the last months in combination with puberty skin made it pretty bad. I read a bit about what helped other people and mirrors are a very common trigger. Until I've figured out how to turn "There's my face in the mirror, I should make it clean and pick at it" into "There's my face in the mirror, I should not pick at it so I don't break my skin and cause scars" I've covered up the areas where I see my face when I'm standing and when I'm sitting on the floor.
I could draw a little face on the stripe...

Prayer Against Evil Mirror Owolabi Onaola
56
She’s always watching me.
Even if I’m just walking to work, I know she’s peeping out from the store’s window reflections. I went camping with some friends once, thinking it would be relaxing to get away. But there she was, rolling over with the waves on the lake. Like a drowned image, but I know she’s too relentless to give up that easily.
It still makes me jump, catching her out of the corner of my eye.
I’ll be getting up in the morning, and I’ll see something across the room move. If I have to use the washroom in the middle of the night, I’m usually shaking. She just laughs at me then. Says some really mean stuff too. Once I had a class that was in a lecture hall with really reflective mirrors. It was Psych 100, and she yawned the whole way through. Still made me jump a mile when I’d turn around and see her glaring though.
Once I smashed all the mirrors in the house into the bathtub, then filled the tub to the brim. I waited for a long time after that. Mom came home and she was furious. When I went into the washroom to see why she was crying, Mom was there, but she wasn’t alone. She was there too, at the bottom of the tub. Staring up at me, and laughing while Mom started to yell at me, even though she was still hiccoughing from crying. I tried to give her a hug, but I got blood on her shirt from where I’d cut my hands.
At least Mom tried though, I have to admit that. She took me to a Doctor, who was nice enough. The Doctor didn’t really understand though. He said that he thought I probably had just started to feel this way. I’ve always felt this way though. My first day of kindergarten, I remember getting mad that I had finally left the house and she’d still followed me to a school mirror. There’s a weird reflection on the lens of my prom picture even. My face is blurred just enough to look doubled. I really didn’t feel like myself the whole night. I don’t even remember if I liked my date or not…even though we… well, you know.
She ruins everything good.
When Dad still lived with us, he would get pretty down. One night he’d been sitting in front of the TV drinking beers. Usually I just stayed in my room, but I went down to the fridge to get some snacks. He saw me there and started rambling about my sister. It was weird, I don’t have a sister.
When I asked my mom about it, she turned kinda pale. Which was weird because she usually just yelled at my Dad.
He left after that though.
It seems weird though, like maybe she might be my twin, and not just all the bad parts of me, like the Doctor said. There are a few sets of twins at school though, and I can tell most of them apart. The girl in the mirror though, she looks just like me. She always knows to move just before I move. Even when I get a haircut, she gets one too.
I’m going to have to go see Dad again on the weekend though. He’s coming to visit the hospital. I guess I’ll have to hope I can get an explanation out of him then…
