“Flixxa, private channel, need to pass on a message to Denton and some Lil’ Pyro, whoever the fuck that is. Urgent.” The urgency of the sudden communicator flare up was enough to catch Alexandria’s attention, especially since it was later than most of the owners usually talked. But the second she heard Etherbane’s nickname for her, she grabbed the asura device and listened in.
Hearing a second growl she figured that it was Aurora and Etherbane, but they were supposed to be with Laila. “The Magister lass, Alex!” Definitely Etherbane’s voice, that manner of speech was very unique to him among the Charr.
“There are fucking fifty Alex’s in the Priory!” Aurora snarled back, the crackling static not making it sound any less bestial.
“Find the one with Noesis!”
“Oh you gotta be shitting me!”
“What?” Etherbane sounded winded, and from the clanging sounds, it sounded like they were running.
“If it’s LaCoria, she’s on this channel!”
“What?! Yes, that’s her. Tell her the Captain just got sucked into a fucking Mist thing!” Growing nervous, she kept her mouth shut, listening to the transmission more, hoping for some clarification. The next few minutes were more sounds of armor clanging and the occasional grunt as the pair of Charr fought something. “Leave the tents! We take the gear and any notes the Captain had. Anything replaceable we leave.”
“Flixxa,” Aurora snarled again, “that channel? Also, get fucking LaCoria on here. Repeat, urgent!”
“Who is Renita,” that was Etherbane’s voice again. Something was definitely wrong.
“Fucking, fuck, fuck. Why are all the people I know involved in this?!” Aurora sounded even more on edge now, and it was only making the gnawing feeling in Alexandria’s gut worse. “Lady Renita Cartwright, she lives in Divinity’s Reach. We cannot tell her this, she’s already stressed enough as she’s about to have her first cub.”
“Sounds like that’s our stop then. We can get word to the Operative and to this Renita. Get the Lil’ Pyromancer there too. Yer gonna help me deliver this fucking letter cub. Unless you got some idea how ta get our team or at least their bodies back, we follow all possible leads!”
Aurora’s snarl was violent over the device, “Your Pyro and Renita are friends, let her handle that issue. I am not risking my friend over people who are probably dead!”
“Is this what’s come of the Vigil; spineless cowards who abandon their comrades?”
“My comrade is Renita you idiot! I saw her kill someone over a panic attack over a friend dying!”
“I don’t care what ya saw when.” Listening to Etherbane yell… it had to be awful. There was no doubt about it, something had gone wrong with the experiment. Mist portal or not, the two Charr thought the other two might be dead. “Right now half our team just got swallowed into the abyss, and if yer just gonna abandon them, the yer a greater coward than any human!”
“Not abandoning, just telling you that letting Renita know they are gone is probably going to kill you too.” Aurora’s hiss was filled with concern, if not anger as well. “She doesn’t have to know, your Pyro can handle this.”
“Run off with yer tail between yer legs then lass. I ain’t givin up on our team.”
“You act like I am, when I’m just trying to save your ass!”
“My ass ain’t worth half as much as even one of those lasses we just lost.”
“Then yer stuck with no choice but ta come with me.”
“Got it.” It was Renita that spoke first from the communicator, which caused Aurora to snarl. "...Wait...what's going on?"
"None of your concern, Cartwright," Aurora snapped, tears sliding down her face despite trying desperately to ignore them, "Just Flixxa...LaCoria, please, private channel."
"Give me a moment, was working on something," Flixxa stated as a few clicks were made, "What's wrong?"
"D-Laila Dylane fell through a mist portal," She gritted her teeth, "Evienne Priss went with her."
"She what?! What the fuck was Evienne doing there, what in the hell were they doing with a Mist Portal?!" Feeling her heart drop in her chest, she threw on her newest ring, sending out a thought that she was going to be heading to the Black Citadel immediately. "I'm getting my gear together, I'll be in Citadel in a few minutes. Flixxa, can you open the waypoint network so I can use it to get there?"
"Done and done," Flixxa stated, "I'll meet you at the guild portal. Need assistance beyond that?"
"Get the fucking word to Denton," Aurora stated, "She needs to know immediately. I-I'm not losing another one."
"I concur," Flixxa states, "So why doesn't Renita need to know?"
"...She's about to have a cub Flixxa," Aurora states, "There is a letter her for her from Laila but I'm afraid the-"
"I will handle that personally," Flixxa states quietly, "Just meet with Alex at the Citadel, I'll meet with you later."
"Have the Roses given you the chance to calibrate the portal?" Buckling her overburdened utility belt on, she grabbed her satchel and the MEW Mk. II on her way out the door. Breaking into a full run, she'd be able to catch up to Flixxa at the top of the bridge. "’Cause if not, I'd rather not end up in the middle of the Brand because it hasn't been!"
"I did it in a sleepless night a few weeks ago," Flixxa said as she met up with Alex, her traveling cloak already on, "It's how I modified things so I could cheaply access the Arch via portal in case I needed to bolt."
"Good," lacking any of her usual lightheartedness, she hurried to where the portal device had been setup in the center of the canyon. "If they really did generate a Mist Resonance Place site, then they could be anywhere in the Mists. I'll need to get word to my team to send me a few things, but that won't take long. If this is really bad, I might need your friend Mixxa's help too. People can exist inside the Mists, but without supplies, their chances aren't good for very long."
"That's why I get to be the messenger for everyone it seems," Flixxa states coldly as she starts shadow stepping to move slightly faster, "Denton, Mixxa...Renita...keep me in the loop."
"I will, I have a feeling you're going to have your hands full with Renita when she finds out. Also... tell my mother?" Looking down at the blonde Asura, Alexandria's stern expression said more than words.
"Done," Flixxa stated firmly, "Cameron can handle Renita when it comes to that, and I've learned how to dodge her curses. Aurora's just scared shitless."
