I also wanted to know your opinion on something, we are having an event until the end of the year where all bully breeds have their adoption fees waived. Our adoption process is long and in depth to get to know the adopters and this isn't any different with the free dogs, and we always deny adoption if they want the for for A) outside dog or B) guard dog. I feel like free dogs is always problematic even though we get to know the adopters especially with bully breeds. What do you think?
I strongly oppose the idea of giving dogs away for free. Don’t get me wrong, people who seek out free pets can be absolutely great pet owners and will do whatever they can to make sure their pet is healthy and happy, but I just feel that for the most part, the people who look for free pets are doing it because they don’t want to pay the regular $200 for the dog. Giving bully breeds and bully mixes away for free just smells like trouble to me. We’ve already got the issue of people getting these dogs for the wrong reason, and people who intentionally seek them out for ignorant reasons (“nanny dog”, “blame the deed, not the breed”) are just as dangerous as the people who adopt a “Pit Bull” with the intent on neglecting, abusing, or shoving it outside as a lawn ornament to scare people away. Unfortunately, no matter what someone says to you in person (“I swear I’m getting this dog for the right reasons”), they can immediately turn around and go back on their word and you can’t do a single thing. I believe that giving “Pit Bulls” away for free is not going to do them any good.
