Within both videos we see how both start off with the same intro music and font. Immdeiately we can tell that this is made by the same person. Though the topic, overall style, tone and narrative structure of both videos is were we begin to stray from the original.
Lets start with the first video. It seems with both videos the creator chooses an era/time period and rolls with what was relevant at that time. For example, in the first “Everything is a Remix” video, all of the songs, pictures and references date back to what the topic is. Why the band Led Zepplin is a remix band rather than an original. We see various references dating back to that era, ranging from the star wars opening font in the begininning, or playing music from the era. Various bands and singing icons appear in pictures, and it is all sprawled out on a layout that appears to be old newspaper. Everything about that video screams 60s to 70s style. This is were both videos differ, both have a very different aesthtic and time period but both retain the same subject matter stating that “Everything is a remix”, including these videos.
The second video talks about how movies, books and graphic novels are all adapations or remixes of each other. Within this video we see all the references dating back to the 2000s to 2010s era. We see the aesthic change, the layout is no longer a dirty old newspaper, and the music is not from a band from the 70s. Instead the look and feel and overall sound is different from the first video. Though we have touched upon what makes them different, there are a few key point to note in what makes these videos similar. WIthin both videos there narrative tale beginning with what is a remix in that era, example of what is being remixed etc. For example In the first video the creator uses the band Led Zepplin, and compares there songs to others stating how it is all a remix. While in the second video it takes the movie Avatar, and states how that is a remix and how it borrows various cues from older movies. We see the narrator within both videos follow a certain narrative style, taking something from the era and comparing to others in order to prove it being a remix. The aesthic, music and topic on the other hand is what keeps it fresh and how you can distiguish both as being “remixes” of each other.
