We weren’t intending to share this song right now, but in the age of coronavirus, we wanted to be responsive to the changed landscape and ‘In Birdsong’ unexpectedly emerged as the most appropriate song to reappear with. Birdsong has accompanied human life since before we were even human, but in the recent century it has been obscured or pushed out of our lives. In the song I talk about hearing birdsong and knowing we are conscious and alive. With fewer cars and planes, and less human intervention generally, we’ve all been given the opportunity to reconnect with resurgent nature, and where we all are, for this brief moment – In Birdsong.”

I have been waiting to see #EverythingEverything @e_e_ again since basically the moment their LA show ended in 2017. I was a new fan then and I was struck that night by how dedicated their fanbase was. There were so many people there who had come from all over & they had made all kinds of little gifts & some of them greeted (& were greeted by) the band like old friends. The long-time fans were so sweet & so happy to be there. It’s the ultimate cult following & I hope that shows in these clips. I know they don’t do it justice (I was caught up in the moment!) but the energy in that room was unbelievable. For context: these songs are some of their oldest & newest, big singles & lesser-known album tracks, with no apparent difference in enthusiasm. The name that people started chanting during the encore break is not a band member, it’s a character from their latest album, #RawDataFeel. Thank you EE for coming back to the U.S. & thank you to my fellow Sardines/Eggs/etc. for being weirdos with me.
