#chasing life

James Potter enjoys the simple life. That is, being a national Quidditch star, drinking profusely with his mates, and no-strings-attached companionship. At least until he meets a beautiful, clever redhead who is immune to his charms and uninterested in his talents. She just might also help him see there is more to this thing called life than perpetual, meaningless bachelorhood.

They’ve never seen Glee during an era where that was as good as it gets. They’ve never suffered through the faux-witticisms of Faking It just to root for two deeply insufferable characters to end up together. When they hear “Carmilla” they think of the book. They’ve never watched english subtitled compilations of just the gay scenes from Las Estrellas on Daily Motion, wondering how long this god damn show is if just the gay parts alone are like over an hour long in compilation? Did they watch all of Chasing Life just for five minutes worth of lesbianism? They remember not a time when The 100 was the pillar around which wlw fans and bloggers revolved. Trials and Tribulations haunts not their memory and never have they wondered who the hell Karlie Kloss is anyways? They know not the importance of Episode 9 of Orange is the New Black nor the rush of going into the Legend of Korra finale blind. I’m nothing if not liberal, so who am I to judge if that orphan is black? Something something L word. Perchance.

It's sad because it just ruins everything that character stands for on a show, and boy oh boy if they're part of a romantic pair, it's destructive because there end up being 2 victims — the one who's being written off & the one who's still here. Honestly feels like an insult to the characters (and the actors who bring them to life) in some cases.

Some characters that were dealt this hand, off the top of my head:

Dr Lisa Cuddy (House MD)

Dr Helen Sharpe (New Amsterdam)

Dr Sarah Reese (Chicago Med)

Honestly, this one just hurts. So much potential down the drain because she was just used as a character that never really knew what to do & they kept ruining her.

Special mention (because I understand but also no?): I keep thinking of Leo Hendrie from Chasing Life — I kind of get it; the actor was always credited as a guest star & ultimately it was a show about cancer so someone had to die if not the lead character (April Carver), but one week after their wedding?! Cop out, I tell you!
