Coastline by Wunder Wunder from Everything Infinite (2014)
She was waiting for the sun to come to her
The time was running past as she took a different turn
I wandered where she went to hide
Was it under my own nose?
I wandered where she went to hide
I see her wave with her change of clothes
To see a way as your fading off down the road
To leave this place to another body all alone
A good-bye smile from a waving child
Up the coast she'll drive into my memories and fade
So just smile
He was waiting for the sun to come back home
Her mind had run on past as he played there by the phone
I wandered if she meant to hide
Was it under my own nose?
I wandered if she meant to hide

I see the waves of the changing coast
Where'd she go?
To see a way as your fading off down the road
To leave this place to a another body all alone
An awkward smile as she walks on by
Doesn’t recognize the timeless memories and fade we made
So just smile
A young boy tries as a young girl smirks
Sleepless lies and romantic talks
See these photos of you along the coastline

TSH: Talk us through the band dynamic as you readied your debut album ‘Everything Infinite’…
Aaron: There was definitely some sort of essence we were trying to capture as we formed the album – something joyful and fun. We just started writing music you know, I wasn’t actually writing much before the album took shape. I used to be a songwriter but I took some time off and left it all and then Ben gave me a track and I started hearing vocals for it and we took it from there. Things progressed well and the whole thing came together in a very pleasing way.
TSH: How did your love for 70’s music come into play?
Aaron: Me and Ben both have a mutual love of 70’s music and the sounds of that era. I guess we were listening to that kind of music and these aspects started to creep into our sound. These sounds inspired us and we used this motivation and we started to see that everything sounds better as we formed it into one collection of songs. Our surroundings were also a key factor.
TSH: Does the relocation to Los Angeles give you a certain impetus and drive for your musical development?
Aaron: I guess it does, Los Angeles definitely has the celebrity parties and wild nights out vibe *laughs*, but you know we were really inspired by the sort of ambience the city has to offer; the whole feel in the sense of waking up and it’s always sunny and there’s a great health vibe in LA also with the meditation and yoga involved. Being progressive in these healthy ways really helps in creating a positive mindset and that’s reflected on the album too.
TSH: In regards to the album, you guys had quite the level of focus as it was almost treated like a job…
Aaron: Oh man, that’s right. We were really focused; we were making sure we had set hours a day to get things done. We actually had a schedule – we’d meditate, have a juice, go for a run and then go to the studio. It was full on concentration and dedication. It was Monday to Friday; we had little breaks and had weekends off. I guess if you do too much of something you can go insane, so we still kept it refreshing!
TSH: In regards to the title track ‘Everything Infinite’ you’ve mentioned being on a train and these morphing sounds came to you…
Aaron: This song is about me laying off the partying and doing more spiritual work, dong all the good things in life without being too airy fairy *laughs* - getting more focused and putting the right things in my body, meditating and exercising. I found that after laying off the partying the songs would come to me a lot quicker, I’d start hearing them in my head and I was on my way back from Orange County on a train and just started to hear this song (‘Everything Infinite’) in my head and I rushed to get it translated onto my laptop. All of a sudden I find this happening a lot more now with my healthy lifestyle. It’s almost like you’re not writing the song and its happening to you.
TSH: Tell us about the song ‘Summer Day’ creating an imaginative feel of what life was like when you were younger…
Aaron: *Laughs* This was a similar song to ‘Everything Infinite’, I used the same technique, a lot of that song came in one night, which is strange because sometimes songs can take months. When I wrote it I remember learning song structures from the Beatles, it all came about quickly, one little bit lead to it all just coming together. I think the dreamy guitar feels like an old memory that sounded like an old moment and reminded me of when I was young playing around in the town I grew up in and I wanted to harness that energy into the song. Those times were so nice, not worrying and being carefree.
TSH: The final song on the album ‘Dreams of the Fall’ is quite fascinating with a totally different feel to the rest of the album, tell us about the song’s significance…
Aaron: I really liked the chord changes with this song, I knew it would it be last on the album. I reckon when you write an album you need a dynamic in there, a structure, sort of like a journey, somewhat like Pink Floyd’s ‘Dark Side of the Moon’. I think with albums, every song has a right spot, like a movie, so we had that outro for ‘Dreams of the Fall’ floating off and giving a nice send-off.
TSH: How excited are you about the prospect of an eventual touring cycle beginning in support of your album?
Aaron: I‘m really excited about it! With my previous bands I toured on and off for almost 3 years and we came to LA to get in the right atmosphere and write the right songs. It’s almost been 2 and a half years since we toured extensively so we’re excited to tour again, especially with a new project like this, it’s fresh and we get to share our music with people all over the world. I’m into the idea of our music bringing people happiness and bringing about positive vibes. To go around sharing positive energy with fans is so exciting; it’s what I want to do.
TSH: Talk us through the plans for the live translation of the album?
Aaron: We’ve sort of had the live band together already, in preparation for the tour. We’ve really got it together - the energy and unity is brilliant. We’ve got the right people on board - a great drummer, it’s not like hired hands, and we have a great mentality, which is so important. You know, we’ve been playing together and the songs are just sounding great. When the songs are performed live they sound so energised, on record they’re soft which is ok for that, but the live translation has such a great tempo and we put the songs in a certain order and fit them together so they enable a unique experience for the audience. We eventually want to get to a level of having synchronised visuals, so the audience is taken away to another place, another world. I like that idea, that’s the role of music after all!
TSH: How do you like to unwind outside of music?
Aaron: Mediation, exercise and comedy! You’ve got to laugh, I watch a lot of comedy and also nature is one of the biggest inspirations for me. I have a background in studying conservation ecology and the values of how nature can unwind you almost immediately is amazing. I love travelling in LA and going to the hills alone and walking – it’s so quiet, I feel like I’ve had a mental bath! It’s so beautiful the things you see with nature, it reminds you of pure beauty. In LA people are dressed in certain ways in the city coming at you all the time and you need to get away from that mental pollution and get away into nature - have a look around and enjoy the natural aspects of life.
TSH: Heading forward, what’s your philosophy?
Aaron: The last couple of years have definitely been a big growing and learning process for me - in identifying elements of life, valuing people and finding peace. For me, the thing that keeps me going and makes me strong is that inner voice that I have, you hear people mention this often and you hear people say they’re staying true to something inside themselves. You know, I think Arnold Schwarzenegger talks about it too *laughs*. Something inside oneself that makes them an individual, they have this voice that tells them if something doesn’t feel right and I’ve found the more you connect to this voice the more you find that you’re on the right path. I think it’s difficult for people to grasp this, but the whole mantra is that it’s so easy – listen to your inner voice and you’ll feel better, it’s like an instinct. Stay true to your instincts!
