Ok SO Outlander is a series of ~historical fiction books. There's seven out rn but a new one is coming out (idk when but fuck it better be soon because I live for these books, man).

Ok, the books start out like this: Claire Randall is a nurse who is going on her second honeymoon in 1946. She's fierce as fuck and served in France during the war so she's really good in a crisis, but the war separated her and her husband, Frank, an academic, so they decide to ~rekindle the flame by going on vacation to Scotland, where they got married. They're both English, but Frank's ancestor, Black Jack Randall, an English officer, served in Scotland, so Frank plans to go ~~fact finding while they're there.

Claire goes exploring by herself, stumbles upon a ground of standing stones, walks through a crack in one of them, and lands in 1743, where she meets... Black Jack Randall. He's a creeper fuck and tries to assault her so she runs away and ends up getting picked up by a group of clansmen, one of which is Jamie Fraser. Jamie is the greatest male literary character of all time, has red hair, is a Highlander, and is sexy as fuq.

The rest of the book deals with Claire trying to get back to the stones, and her own time, along with her growing attraction and eventual falling in love with Jamie. The books are really long and they have lots of minor characters and plots (like a fantasy book), but it's all really well written and Diana Gabaldon (the author) is really big on historical accuracy, so they're really really fascinating.

I love them because... ugh, I can't even describe it. They're set in this amazing time period (Scotland is like, my dream country) and setting and Jamie and Claire just feel so REAL, you know? Like, they have flaws and quirks and tics that they just come alive off the page. Claire is especially well written - it's easy to love male characters in fantasy, but sometimes females are written poorly or even written well and people still hate them, and it sucks, but it's pretty much impossible to hate Claire. She's smart and sassy and brave and even though in the latest books she and Jamie are well into their 50's, they're still the fucking shit and I still love to read about them. I have been to hell and back for this couple you do NOT even know.

Go and buy the first book! They're so GOOD. I've read all seven of them (okay except for The Fiery Cross, because it drags sooo much) so many times it's actually really embarassing. I have my favourite scenes' page numbers memorised and can flick to them when I'm having a shitty day and read them and ughhh, BOOK SERIES OF MY LIFE TBH
