I'm currently still debating on whether or not I should post what was said (obviously sensoring their name because privacy is a right) or not (it does not affect me, but is still hateful).

In India, you won't get a 'good husband' if you aren't of a fair complexion. Some colours won't suit you if you are black. This has been going on since ages. Before we were introduced to social media, bollywood played a big role in most of the Indians' lives. Everyone wanted to be as 'beautiful' as so and so actor/actress. And by beautiful they mainly meant being fair. This increased the production of creams like "Fair & Lovely" and "Whitetone". Ads showed a woman who used these creams would immediately win a guy or get a job. These ideas have narrowed down people's mindsets even more. Brown girls had no choice but use tons of make up which damaged their skin even more. And obviously this will give the society to talk shit about her even more. As there is now one more reason why a guy, who isn't open minded, won't marry her. What's the point of marrying a guy, who won't accept you for you, who won't look at your inner beauty, your trueself, and blindly looks for a girl who is perfect as per society's norms. As per the post, what if a kid who has dark complexion thinks that he/she is ugly for the rest of his/her life? Won't that be traumatizing for him/her ? Chances are he/she will get bullied during school years and he/she will end up harming his/her own skin.

Society won't leave you unless and until you feel like a total failure.

I am really glad that today's generation are well educated about sensitive topics like this and are empathetic towards others, and I do hope that such cheap thoughts won't be passed down to the next generation as it was passed down to the previous ones.
