For this project, we were instructed to get an object that was around three inches and size it up to 3 feet. I was very challenged doing this project. For my first attempt, I wanted to try and contruct a brooch but the shape was too complicated, and it ended up falling apart. My second attempt was an eraser, but unfortunately the edges would not stay straight and ended up curling in on itself. My third attempt was a mini basketball, that ended up smaller and I could not figure out how to curve it. I ended up getting frustrated so I picked a piece of vine charcoal to recreate. I then put brown paper on it, and painted over it. This was the easiest to do color wise, and although I am not entirely happy with the finished project, I am glad I was able to persevere and not give up on it.

This was probably my favorite assignment to do. We were given instruction to replicate an everyday object ,no larger than 3inches, and create a sculpture using paper mache. At first I was stuck between choosing a button or an AirPod. But the more I thought about it, I realized it would be so cool to make a tiny AirPod that everyone knows, into a giant model of one. The comedic aspect to it helped in my decision. I first created the “skeleton” of the big AirPod using chicken wire, this was the most difficult part of the assignment. I later did my first layer using brown paper bags, for the next three days after I did a news paper later every day. I then finally got to paint it. Painting it was the most fun part for me because I was able to complete the AirPod look. I am truly so proud of how this came out. This means more to me because I love music very much and AirPods are took to escape using music. I believe choosing this AirPod as my monument could also serve as a symbol of our generation and or the current technology society is using.

In this assignment, the objective was to replicate a small real-life object using chicken wire and papier-mâché. I carefully considered various objects before deciding on my airpod, an item I constantly carry with me due to its distinctive shape and design. The process involved extensive photo documentation and meticulous planning. Utilizing the provided materials - chicken wire, newspaper, and acrylic paints - I embarked on crafting the replica. The post showcases the final outcome of this endeavor. For this project, I was asked to choose an object and make a sculpture using chicken wire, which couldn't be more than 3 feet. I decided to make a sculpture based on a number one birthday candle. I started forming shapes using chicken wire and wood to help create the form. It wasn't easy to make the shape of the birthday candle, but it slowly started to look like an object. Then, I began covering the structure with brown paper bags and using a mixture of water and flour as a paste to ensure the brown paper sticks onto the sculpture. I did it twice to make the sculpture solid and easy to paint on. Then, I covered the structure with newspaper and used the same paste. Once the sculpture was dry, I painted it in white and then in small details to make it look like an object. This project was fun but challenging because it was my first time handling chicken wire. The contradictory idea of everyday monuments is that if you were to find an everyday object in a size of 3ft or bigger, it would be hard to believe that such a thing would exist because, usually, such objects would be small.

This project I would say was a bit tedious. I got the idea of us having to get items that we overlook and that are smaller than 3 inches. But what threw me off was to make it 3ft and I was fine with that. I like how it challenged my idea of what I wanted to do. In my opinion I could’ve done my project better. I decided to do my name tag from my job. I then created it out of Chicken wire, paper bag, and then news paper. To do each layer it took me about an hour. Then to paint it took about 45 minutes. Then lastly to write the words that took 10 minutes. I enjoyed seeing everyone else’s work I really found them to be interesting and unique.

This is the final result of all of the hard work I have put into this project. Not only was this the most tedious project I have ever done in this class, but it was also the most rewarding since right after I was done, I was able to congratulate myself for all of the work and time I have put into this project. I honestly undermined the amount of time this was going to take me because I assumed it would just be replicating the object by making a skeleton (I was wrong). Putting aside how tedious this project was to do, it was also nice to experiment with a different medium. It came out very nice, the only thing I wished I could have done better is repaint the handle.
