Tbf I think a lot of gamergate/anti-woke types are into anime/other japanese media but don't see it as a diversity thing? I've even seen people basically worshipping (their idea of) Japan as some conservative racially homogenous paradise untouched by wokeness.
Maybe they'd get mad at some characters not having #FFFFFF skin though.
Yeah that's why I found picking the 'characters who aren't white exist' option so funny. They'd absolutely be hypocrites over it in pursuit of some big boog (I'm not correcting that typo) anime girl.
(But I think you're on the money with the skin colour thing.)
If there was a version of the 'homo relationship options' that was softer (e.g. 'characters are implied to have homosexual attraction') I would've considered it too (*gestures to Ibuki*), but ultimately wouldn't have picked it. I think they'd be too busy calling her their waifu to notice.
