Worldbuilding Evaree is weird because on the one hand, I think it’s essential to know that Evaree is bigger than any of the other countries and encompasses many cultures and multiple languages. So I could potentially develop it infinitely and lately have been inspired to give it a lot more depth.
But also I’ve got so much worldbuilding to do/show for the main three countries I’m writing about in Conviction that Evaree’s display kinda has to be limited, for my own sanity as well as readers’.
Anyway here’s what we (I) do know as of now:
It’s north of everyone else, and because of this, generally warmer and sunnier
It’s Big and Complex, with multiple distinct states
The demonym is Evarett
Much of Evaree is vast plateaus, highlands, deserts, and some mountains, including a string of active volcanos. But they also have a coastline somewhere up there, and at least one corner that’s pretty marshy/jungly.
They have the most advanced tech of any countries mentioned
They also have areas where people still have very traditional low tech lifestyles. What traditions? What areas? Who knows tbh.
Evaree has an impressive military and they’re going places in the ocean exploration race
They aren’t quite in a cold war with J’Kyris but there is a certain amount of competition as the biggest and most influential countries on the continent, and people are starting to get scared of where that’s going
They apparently have SOME kind of ex-con restorative justice program SOMEWHERE. We know nothing about it but Gavin and Moriine have opinions apparently
Domed buildings! but only some of them, and only some of Evaree (what parts? Who knows)
Art Nouveau vibes, but only some of them, and only some of Evaree (what parts? Who knows)
There are some rad looking cities in the huge shadowy crevasses and cliffs of the desert
Solarpunk vibes
Trains
The southwest jungly area now called Krishtal has gone back and forth between Evarett and J’Kyrish claim, and used to be part of a larger empire which also encompassed surrounding areas. To this day Krishtal has its own distinct vibes even though half of it is in Evaree and half is in J’Kyris.
Gavin’s ancestors used to be nomadic in the general area of Ykatern and southeastern Evaree. Gavin doesn’t generally give a shit but his mom does and strongly identifies with that ethnic group, which doesn’t have a name yet.
Evaree is basically the only country that maintains any kind of trade relationship with Ykatern once Ykatern shuts its borders. Both the Ykaternic military and many of the rebel groups get their weapons from Evaree.
As of the Plague Wars, Evaree gained a lot of land mass I think but also lost one of its territories (Bakhan is now an independent country)
