Good morning!
Today, we usher in a new month, and we celebrate the Kalends of November, originally the ninth month. Today is a time for worshipping Ianus, for worshipping Portunus, and a goddess I am a devotee of - Cardea, goddess of doorhinges.
I once heard it said that New Year’s Resolutions are not important simply because they are made on the new year. They are important because they are goals to stick to - there is no difference between making one in January or making one in the middle of July. The important thing is stamina.
I believe the new month can be a sign for renewal. A helpful trick to commit to goals, to start fresh. One thing I want to do is read more books. That’s always my goal; but I am currently planning to start a book review YouTube channel, and to publish my first video, I need to finish the book I’m reading. The trick here is making the goal actionable - and for this, I have decided to read AT LEAST one chapter per day. It’s already helped me get through more of the book.
For me, there is another reason that today is ceremony: my grandfather’s birthday. He died a few years ago, and would now be a Lar. I plan to honor him, to give him offerings and simply talk to him. I do quite miss him. But I hope, wherever he is, whether that is Orcus or what he believed in (I think he was Christian, but I’m not quite sure what he actually believed), that he is happy and content.
Happy Kalends. May it be a blessed one.
Finished the first of my Sanguinaria character practice drawings, as assigned by the random character name chore wheel: Cardea, the ancient Greek sorceress~ 🔮💎💜
Cardea is known in Greek and Roman religion as the 'Goddess of the Hinge' who protects the family – especially young women and children.
Some preliminary designs for Anabel & Thorton's (and Dulse's) family!
Carola (left) is Dulse/Anabel/Thorton but is primarily raised by Dulse and considers her other two parents more like an aunt & uncle. Growing up mainly in Ultra Megalopolis, but exposed to Earth culture from a young age, she has a love of the other world's media, especially video games, as well as pokémon.
Cardea (right) is Anabel/Thorton's daughter, born when the two of them are around 40. Anabel uses her maternity leave as an easing out for Interpol, fully retiring when Cardi is a toddler. She then becomes the Sinnoh Battle Frontier's manager (not unlike Scott's job). Cardea grew up entirely in Sinnoh and loves the outdoors, giving guided hikes of Mt. Coronet in the summer and working Search & Rescue for the mountain in the winter alongside her Skarmory. She's seen some things...

Hey!! Guess what? I am developing a very cool card game! I’ll reveal more details later on, but the basic gist is that you are trying to get the highest or lowest value, the goal changing based on what cards are played! Admittedly I’ve been procrastinating on getting it all ready for some irl test runs and prepublication as an actual marketable product. I need to get this deck of 100 unique cards done… so I’m doing a challenge! I will attempt to finish up two cards a day. So theoretically if I do this well I’ll be done in 50 days. Somehow this feels familiar?
Be ready to look at this same big-eyed face for a while as I complete 100 odd cards! Hee hee hee. Note: This time around not all renders will be new, I may repurpose old art.
