the media covering the Olympic Figure Skating events is genuinely disgusting. Building all of these people up to insane podiums, showing them messages from loved ones and idols right before they compete, plastering them everywhere on social media and promotional deals and then cornering them the second they leave the ice, especially after they leave in tears is disgusting. Not only do they not give them a moment to compose themselves, they press and add salt to the wounds, and try to turn them against their competitors so they can paint them as bitter losers (This was incredibly noticeable in the Chock/Bates interviews) . And after all of that the media goes and plasters their faces at peak devastation everywhere, calling them fallen favorites (like with Ilia Malinin being called a golden boy who fell short, and don't even get me started at how the media has made Amber Glenn out as hysterical for crying, the misogyny there is a conversation to be had).
