whenever i see posts showing support for bisexuals who are not in same-sex relationships, there’s always replies saying something along the lines of “this is a non-issue because male/female relationships aren’t ostracized like same-sex relationships are.” while it’s true that no one’s stopping men and women from being in relationships with one another, replies like this are kinda missing the point. it’s not about male/female relationships. it’s about the gross fetishization of same-sex love and the erasure of bisexual identities. it’s about the hets who think that bisexuals are always down for a threesome, even if they’re in a committed relationship. it’s about people who think like someone i saw on here years ago saying that they’d be fine with a character on a show being bisexual as long as she was in a wlw relationship because otherwise “there’s none of the cute lesbian-ness uwu.” it’s about it’s about some saying that “het” couples shouldn’t be at pride, regardless of the individuals’ sexualities. it’s about the fact that, as a bi girl who has dated girls in the past but is currently in a relationship with a guy, i’m constantly asked questions like “didn’t you used to think you were gay?” which are then followed by “bet he’s glad you got over that.” it’s not really about m/f relationships at all. it’s about bisexuality, bi-erasure, and the fact that straight people see same-sex relationships as more risque than m/f relationships
