Reflective Evaluation
This is a first module that leave me to think about my own project by using myself, my own idea and I think it was fun and I am very enjoy to use different inspiration and technique to create my idea and develop it. The project of this module gave me a lot of practice and the way to use the things around me to make a model and project.
Ways of seeing project, I got an idea from reflection and recycle thing such as, broken mirror, CD, plastic glass and foil. The problem that I met when I am thinking about the ideas is how to make I interest and suitable with the brief that I got from tutor and what kind of thing that I want to create. The first concept that came to my head is illusion, I will use illusion to attract people and then I do some research that relate to illusion for example, the picture that print on 2d paper, but it is 3d, The sculpture that look at you even you walk pass it or stop and looking at it, it still gazing at you, and the video on youtube, facebook, and so on that shown illusion in different thing such as, mirror, painting, etc. After that, I try to make the easy type illusion and I found that it is very hard to make it realistic. So, I give up with it and looking for some new idea that it suitable for me and ways of seeing project. My final idea come up with concept reflection, I got this idea from house of mirror. House of mirror is a traditional attraction at funfairs that use different type of mirrors such as, distorted, curves, convex, or concave in the glass to give the participants unusual and confusing reflections of themselves. After I have do research about house of mirror, reflection on broken mirror and glass. After I have an idea I start a plan to create my final idea from the thing that can recycling and it can reflect. So, I decide to use broken mirror, broken CD, foil and glue. After it done, I happy with the result and even it did not good as I am imagine, but anyway I think it can explain what I want to say to audience by itself.
Another project that I have got in this module is create my own 21th century ISM that I am very enjoy and happy with it so much. At first, I will use Thaism because, in this project I use traditional Thai pattern and I think it can show my nationality directly, but I think it simple and it is not special, so, I decided to change my ism from Thaism to Kranokism. I got an inspiration for learn and start to practice to doodle my traditional Thai pattern. Kranok is the name of the traditional Thai pattern that I got an idea from it and use it to create my 21th ism project. Kranok is a Thai word that mean gold in English. So, I decide to use dark yellow to gold colour tone in my poster, because of the meaning of Kranok. If you ever go visit or travel to Thailand, you will see this pattern in everywhere especially Thai temple, art museum, art gallery and official places such as, palace, royal temple and so on. So, Kranok is very important to Thai people and I enjoy to learn and practice this pattern and I want to keep it and develop it over and over again until it suitable for my new project in the future. So, I design Kranokism because, I have a dream and challenge to create a font by using the pattern that I like and I am fascinated in it combining with typography design technique. This is my dream to create my own type design and this my first time that I have design all English letter by myself. This ism, I want to show the Thai style and Thai art to people who never seen it before and I want to try something that relate to my nationality, my country, and I want to keep it even the time run over to next generation in the future, This ism can stay still, beautiful, and it will be eternity. The problem and challenge that I found in this project was I have to use new technique and software that I am not familiar, I have to work hard and do it over and over again. I really enjoy to use my traditional pattern with typography and this is my dream since I start and love in typography design.
In my opinion, I learn a lot from both project in this module, it gave me a chance to challenge myself to use my own skill, my own idea, my own inspiration and technique to create the model in ways of seeing project and 21th century ISM. This project gave me a lot of practice and it help me to learn and develop my idea for a good result, practice my skill such as, photoshop skill, crafting, drawing and so on. I have my own idea, my inspiration and I will still develop my skill and technique to be a professional in this way like use my own hand for the next project and my future work.
FMP, Evaluation
How did it go? to be honest I don’t know. Since the brief day I knew I wanted to do something with a meaning, something that would make people think, with a important message, like a campaign. The idea of which message use took a while to arrive, but then I found the WWF campaign that says thath the nature is not recycleble which I think is a very important message and it is also something for which everyone can do something about, this Video is a good example of that (apolagize for the video on Facebook, I didn’t find it somewhere else).
Speaking with a friend of mine about my project, explaining him my idea of people, kids, familis looking at rycicled animals, he gave me the idea of use carton, paper animals. I really like it. (Thinking about it now I could have use different materials shrivelled up, it could be an idea for another project).
As soon as I came back from Switzerland after Easter, I’ve been to the Bristol Zoo to filming with Jack (he’s very good with cameras, he really helped me, but I filmed my stuff by myself under his supervision). I wasn’t sure about what I wanted exactly and I had no idea of how the zoo looked like, so I got as much footage as possible. Once back at uni I looked at the footage to devcide what to use and how to use it. The aquarium shot was the best, empty and dark, it already had its own meaning. I worked on it.
Got the idea, drown the story board, found the kids, booked the studio, filmed. Filming with kids is never easy, and if the kids are your toutors and you film during the weekd close to beadtime, is less easy. We forgot few shot, we forgot few details, we tried to make it as quick as possible and it had its consequence. I work on what I had.Â
This has been my second green screen project, the first one wasn’t too bad, but compared to this it was less work. I had a lot of problem with keying out, but not becuase the footage was very bad (except that was a bit dark, that we use a blue light and that the end of the dolly out wasn’t on focous, it was good) but beacuase I’ve very very very slow, I need much more practice on it, I just couldn’t make it look right (Chris keying it out in 5 mins), in the end I did it, but it took me nealy one day for each shot. Once I keying out the green compositing wasnt to difficult as I just wanted the talent in front of the aquarium.
I did a last minute editing with the few shot I did, not proud of it at all, but it is not too bad for the short time I had left.
As like for my last works, my flat mate Simon James wrote the music for this project, I asked him something with piano that reminds the ocean, and not too happy.
The final work is... ok. I’m not happy with it, it’s nothing of what I wanted, but maybe is going to make people think a little bit anyway. I see this project like a very short and previous version of my next work on which I plan to work during the summer.
Has been a very full year. There are a lot of think I want to learn and improve during the summer, I’ll come back in September full of energy, motivation and milions of new ideas.
Nice summer break to everyone!!!
PS. I hated the computer at uni on which every software is no updated, I had to rendering my work on my computer becuase I couldn’t open it on an iMac. It is only a 30 second video with 3 different shots, but after 3h30 it still need 2h40, its gonna be hand in very very very very late. I couldn’t ask to finish my first year in a better way.
