Marinette sat on the bench, eyes on her phone, watching her friend and latest fairy Aurore step up to the stage. She was a splendor with her magic, easily charming so many for this past few days, her vote was in the bag. 

A small bit of happiness she could give her friend. 

“Marinette!” 

She jumped, looking up to see Adrien Agreste himself running her way, green eyes honey warm and happy, full of adoration and fondness. Marinette though instinctively tensed up, brow raised as she peered up at him. It grew when he came to a stop, his smile turning soft and blissful, and it just set off something ugly inside. 

“Can I help you?” she asked politely, an edge in her tone. 

“Oh! Um, I wanted to congratulate you, for your hat design. You really blew me out of the water with the pigeon theme.” 

“It was a fairy theme.” 

Adrien’s smile fell at her flat response, then shifted awkwardly. “O-oh. I must’ve been thinking of something else,” he offered sheepishly. 

She frowned softly, a little unimpressed. She glanced back at her phone, seeing Aurore had won, as expected. Marinette reached up, lightly touching her flower brooch to recall her fairy. 

“That’s a pretty brooch,” Adrien voiced, scrambling to get this first official meeting and reunion going well. 

“A gift from my grandmother,” came the easy answer. She stood, calling out to Manon that it was time to head back. The park just now felt… stifling. 

“It was nice to meet you!” Adrien called after her, rewarded with a strained, small, polite smile that didn’t reach her eyes, then she hurried away, pulling Manon with her. He sighed. It was great seeing her again, though it seems he had to renew his efforts in winning his lady’s heart. 

Which reminded him, where was Fu and the miraculouses? He was ready to be Chat Noir and stretch his legs again. And if he didn’t have luck as Adrien in winning her over, there was always the suave Catsanova Chat Noir. 

“I don’t need that smile for this shoot! Vincent shouted out, startling Adrien; flustered, the boy hurried back, doing a smile that Vincent wanted.
