Some Bleach world-building ideas because if Kubo can retcon his own work every five issues then it's Free Estate, Baby:
- Only souls born within Soul Society can gain spiritual energy. Since Rukia was just a baby when she was transported and was exposed at a young age, she counts
- The more spiritual pressure you have, the slower you age. This is why child prodgies Byakuya, Gin, and Soi Fon age normally while bigger powerhouses like Yamamoto, Toshiro, and Retsu barely change with time.
That is also the reason why the Quincies only marry each other. Humans with spiritual powers tend to leave longer than average and outlive many of their friends as a result. Many people don't want to take the risk of outliving their loved ones, so marry within their circle.
- On that note, since so many citizens in Karakura town were exposed to the kids' powers for so long, most of them gained a long life as a result and now there's a rumour that if you'll stay long enough in this mysterious town, you could become immortal.
- The people of the poorer Rukongai districts have their own take on the Orion and Scorpio constellations, with Orion being a poor farmer while Scorpio being a dog.
The tale goes that once lived a farmer with no family but his loyal hound. One day the farmer heard there was this big commotion over a mysterious beast devouring livestock. After being told there was a hefty price on the beast's head, the farmer killed his loyal hound and covered its mouth with sheep's blood to get the money. The hound returned to the world as a vengeful Hollow and vowed to chase his own until their dying breath. This is also where the 78th district, Inuzuri, gets its name from.
- While conquering one's inner Hollow forces you to face your worst flaws, drinking Yhwach's blood allows your flaws to consume you. Bambi and Bazz are both hotheads so they have fire powers. Lily is incredibly greedy so now she devours everything in her path. Jugram is a perfectionist so he became the Balance. As Nodt grew bitter during his sick days and wished that the entire world would fear death as much as he does. Should Uryu have had that power for more than a week, who knows what would have become of him.
- Orihime is the Soul King's Daughter and this is a hill I'm willing to die on. Her powers parallel those of Yhwach (rejection of the past/ rejection of the future) and the Royal Guard, she's the only human with personified weapons and every single character that met her immediately thought "there is no way this girl can be just a Ryoka with these kinds of abilities." Her being a Fullbringer has the same energy as the Visored being former captain/ lieutenants: a last minute change thanks to shitty pacing.
- Speaking of Fullbringers, the Quincies themselves started out in a similar manner, in which a child of born with spiritual powers and it manifested in his family's cross, encouraging others to do the same. The other Christians in the area thought it was the work of the devil and slaughter all the original Quincies with their families barely escaping in time. This is why Soul Society didn't do anything until the 29th century; other fanatics did the job for them until the industrial revolution began and religion didn't have that much power over the masses like it used to, giving the Quincie to live in peace for a few good decades.
- The reason why Hueco Mundo is all Spanish named was thanks to the search of El Dorado. During the time spaniards occupied South American, a portal to Hueco Mundo opened up and many followed through for more gold. When the natives realized that none of those awful conquerers come back from that area, they kept telling to the other spaniards that this is where all the gold and they better take it before anyone else could. The Hollows ended up eating so many spaniards that Spanish became their native language.
The Shinigami didn't even bother to save because the spaniards that were in Soul Society were already such a nightmare to deal with that they were happy they just didn't have to deal with more. They only closed the portal when the balance of souls was getting wonky.
