Great horned owlets, May 12th 2025.
I got so overwhelmed by sorting through the hundreds of photos I took of these owlets in May that I never shared them with you. There may be better shots still in the catalogue but I'm going with the one of the three it seems I exported back then! Their mother had built her nest in a tall eucalyptus on a hillside, perhaps not realizing that the nearby road would actually be near level with the nest. I never saw these two fledge; I was worried about their proximity to traffic and wondered whether the park might have called someone to relocate them (if such a thing is even possible). These were shot with a very big telephoto lens from across the road, as I didn't want to spook them or their mother (whom I never saw).
