To everyone in the UK
Do you understand why iced tea exists now?
A message from someone who used to live in a stone box building with no a/c (in 110°F/43.3°C plus humidity) to the people of the EU who aren't used to this heat:
You are allowed to go naked in your own home. The less layers, the less hot air gets trapped right up on your skin.
You're going to want to drink plenty of water and electrolytes. Gatorade is one of the most common suggestions we have in the US, but something like Liquid IV is my go-to. It doesn't matter how you get them, just get your electrolytes. Powder in your water or a full drink.
If you don't have access to those, mix water with pickle juice or lemon juice and salt. Primarily what you're looking for is water with salt, potassium, and magnesium. (Not magnesium citrate. That's something very different)
A bag of frozen vegetables makes a great cold pack. Put it on the back of your neck or under both armpits if you get too hot.
Make doubly sure any pets are kept cool as well. If they have long hair, shave them. Cats will hate it, but it's better than them boiling to death.
On that note, keep your hair off your neck. You might even shave your own head. I always shave the sides and back of my head every summer so it's a bit more manageable.
If you live near water, you're probably going to be dealing with humidity. I know you don't think you need it, but drink more water. Contrary to what you might think, humidity dehydrates you even faster. Make sure you have a fan and an ADHD person's collection of drinks on you at all times.
I promise you will be okay. The heat is cooking your brain and making you panic, but you will be okay. The trick is to stay calm.
Today on only English speaking countries matter: The heatwave Don't tag it as only uk heatwave you ignorant fuck. Its most european countries
