"Poor little girl, you are not what was desired, but you are no less dear to me. A boy would have been the son of France, but you, Marie Thérése, shall be mine" audio and its Mickey at all the toons from recent Disney flops like Raya, Ethan, Asha, etc
I like to think that, even if Disney had done them wrong and dirty, even if the audience loathes them and their stories, even if Disney abandons them- Mickey would still love them regardless. He doesn't care that their stories didnt meet expectations, or that they didnt break the box office or won the studio an award. They were made with heart. They were representation of another year of creativity and art, especially Asha, his sweet girl (I like to think she and Star are one of his favourites from the new gen). These toons were all lovely characters to him, and if the humans don't love them, well Mickey's just gonna love them in the humans' place.

After everything that happened in Avalonia, Ethan comes back different. More confident, more sure of himself, but still very much Ethan.
Diazo notices immediately. He teases him about it like: “So…saving the entire ecosystem made you cooler, huh?”
Ethan turns red every single time. Some things never change.
Diazo 100% knew Ethan had a crush on him way before Ethan and Searcher left on their expedition, and now he knows it never went away.
The difference now? Ethan’s not as subtle anymore, and Diazo is definitely enjoying that.
He leans into it with soft teasing, lingering looks, and playful comments that leave Ethan completely flustered.
Diazo’s teasing is never mean; always soft, playful, and a little flirty: “You still draw me in your notebook?”
Ethan dies internally every time.
They bond a lot over their love of nature and exploration, especially after Ethan’s experience during the expedition.
Ethan tells Diazo everything, every creature, every glowing plant, every terrifying moment, and Diazo listens like it’s the most fascinating story in the world.
Eventually, they start going on their own mini-adventures together. Nothing dangerous, just exploring Avalonia’s new environment.
Diazo is the kind of person who sits close without making a big deal out of it; shoulders brushing, knees touching.
Ethan notices every time and tries not to overthink it (he fails).
Diazo will sometimes gently bump him or lean in just to see his reaction, and yeah, Ethan still short-circuits.
Ethan tries to confess. Multiple times.
Diazo always seems to know what he’s about to say and interrupts with something soft like: “I know.”
And Ethan just freezes like: “You — what??”
Diazo just smiles and changes the subject, leaving Ethan spiraling in the best way.
Diazo absolutely likes Ethan back, he just takes his time with it.
He enjoys the slow build, the soft tension, and the way Ethan lights up around him.
When he does show affection, it’s subtle but intentional; standing closer than necessary, remembering little things Ethan says, always choosing to be near him.
Diazo is incredibly emotionally intelligent.
He knows Ethan sometimes feels pressure from being a Clade, even after everything, and he’s always there to ground him.
He never pushes Ethan to be anything other than himself. That’s what Ethan loves most about him.
Their first real moment isn’t dramatic, it’s quiet.
Sitting somewhere overlooking Avalonia, talking about the future.
Ethan gets nervous, starts rambling, and Diazo just reaches over and takes his hand.
No teasing. No jokes. Just soft, certain warmth.
Ethan stops talking immediately.
Their relationship is soft, playful, and full of quiet understanding.
Diazo brings out Ethan’s confidence, while Ethan brings out Diazo’s gentler, more openly affectionate side.
It’s not rushed, it’s something that grows naturally, like everything in Avalonia now.
One thing I love Strange World is that there's no "villain" in a sense. Like Encanto, and Turning Red, it's just about families working through their problems with a little danger and spectacle thrown in as a little bonus.
The thing about not wanting to be like your parents only to unknowingly turn out just like them is actually crazy and I love how they did it in the film. Showing that it isn't too late for you to be better is a really cool concept to play with.

In the Disney animated feature, Strange World, the Clade family are renown explorers who had discovered the miracle plant Pando which offers their own world an unlimited source of energy. Ethan is the teenage son of the Clades who had lived a normal life and came to feel overshadowed and embarrassed by his famous parents. He is a shy and caring young man who is struggling with having un-expectantly fallen in love with his classmate, Diazo.
Ethan and his family must put aside their personal issues when a crises arises that threatens to destroy the planet Pando. They embark on a wild adventure into a mysterious subterranean realm inhabited by all manner of strange creatures. Ethan discovers that Pando is actually a living entity and using it to fuel their world is harming it. He helps his family make the correct decision and Pando is saved.
Actor Jaboukie Young-White provides the voice for Ethan. Strange World premiered in November of 2022.
It's been noted and joked how Strange World has followed this decade's trend of having generational trauma be the real villain.
However, it's important to note that it in many aspects goes in the opposite direction of Encanto and Turning Red.
The Madrigals unquestioningly following Alama's edicts, as well as Ming upholding the tradition of repressing everything, lead to burdens that they passed down.
In contrast, Searcher from a young age rejects Jaeger's toxic obsession with exploration. However, in not really coming to terms with it, his visceral rejection becomes every bit as toxic. Which not only leads to him having the outlook that "everything related to exploration is bad", instead of "exploration isn't my cup of tea", but trying to force that on Ethan.
Which speaks to the situation where a lot to people who have left really toxic/dangerous upbringings but, because they didn't actually deconstruct things, become just as unpleasant and toxic in the new space they come to.
