Let’s talk about relationships! (For Mana, since you mentioned Mahad)

“Well, you are right in the phrase ‘family’. These are the group of people I care for the most….”

“Seker and Mahad were like my older brothers growing up. Obviously, Mahad is my master and more or less my guardian, so I was a little closer to him, but I adored Seker throughout the time we spent together when we were alive. I used to follow him around while he was working a lot. I was… very sad to know of his passing as well. I still visit every so often… every time I see him it feels like I’m a little kid around a super awesome guy. That’s probably annoying for him. Sorry, Seker. Mahad is always very patient with me. Which is amazing because I don’t think I’m all that good a student, and especially back then. My only real talents were in illusions to help me pull pranks, and he was often the person who got caught up in it. My bad. But he never gave up on me, and he’s the reason I was able to get so far.”

“Silent? Silent’s the Ka spirit of a woman I knew in Egypt too. I used to adore her and Silent is just so amazing I can’t help but adore her too. When I think about grace and beauty, she’s who I try to emulate… maybe don’t tell her that, haha, it’s just a little embarrassing, even though it’s true. She’s so kind to everyone she deems worthy, and she’s so fierce in protecting those she cares for. And if she’s not busy, there’s usually some kind of baking going on for Doom, since he lives with her. I love her to pieces. Oh, it’s mothers’ day, I should probably pay her a visit soon if she isn’t too busy…”

“As for Maha, Doom and Ebon, I met all of these people properly after I died and became Dee-Em-Gee. I knew of Maha in Egypt, but I don’t think we talked all that much… He was a monk brought to Khemet… I do remember thinking he seemed interesting, so maybe I did force my presence on him once or twice? Anyway, as spirits, Maha’s always been the kind of person that would sit with you to meditate if you needed, and heal or bandage you up after a bad fight. He’s so kind to everyone around him, and he doesn’t use much of his power. I’ve heard it’s some awesome force, but I haven’t seen it. All I do know is that if someone tries to mess with him, there’s a few of us willing to throw down on his behalf. Probably more people than he’d like to fight for him, but he’s just so kind, I think he’s touched the hearts of almost everyone he speaks to.”

“You’ve heard me talking about Doom and Ebon before, I think, but I do relish an opportunity to do so! Ebon is a spirit of his own making— literally, I think. Sometimes he looks around at my old stuff like he knows what it is and where it came from in some way. He loves to read, and I’m fairly certain he’s broken into everyone’s houses if they have books that interest him. It’s kinda hilarious, if he’s not stealing something you need. He’s also very non-judgemental. He’s been my confidant in telling him about a lot of darker things that I don’t want to admit to others, and he’s always given me logical and sound advice about it. He’s also really fun to spar with because he doesn’t hold back. Seriously. He’s just so cool!”

“And finally, Doom…”

“I feel like I’m always gushing about Doomstar, haha! He’s the eldest of us all, by a very large margin, and yet that never stops him from being up for a good time like it would for some. He’s very passionate about his interests, which means he could be gone for days while he’s off on an excursion to a nebula, or something else that’s cool. He’s also very passionate about the destruction of soul-wrecking stones. Which is also awesome considering how harmful those can be to basically anyone… People have called him a monster, and honestly, I don’t think he minds the nickname all that much, if that grin he gets is anything to go by. He’s always had my back, even though I didn’t always deserve it. He’s a truly good and pure person, and I love him…. Well, I love all of these people so much. They really are the reason I try hard every day to be good.”

“Yes...Yes I’m fine.” Startled, but fine. He was more concerned about the magician in front of him. Reaching out he cupped his face in his hands, looking him over. “Are you okay? Aside from being worn out now? Can I do anything?”

“Hey, hey hey”

  At long last, night had come ＆ washed over the palace with its oily gloom ＆ eerie hush. The turning clock could transform these castle grounds quite profoundly, rendering the premises bleak ＆ dreary in the patchy moonlit haze. So unlike it was to day, which cast dazzling sun spots against gem-embellished walls ＆ brought sparkling visibility to the splendor of these surroundings. Come day, the grounds were anything but still; hustling and bustling with the boisterous conviviality of its lively inhabitants ＆ its various visitors.

The sun brought this place to life; but the moon put it, and its rather rambunctious residents, down to bed. Although all had gone and fallen asleep, so it seemed, Atem was wide awake. 

He knew full-well the guards that patrolled these darkened halls with flame-lit torches in-hand to guide their scouting eyes with would throw a fit should they learn of his unprecedented whereabouts. It would stir trouble, Atem knew, to tiptoe beyond the guarded safety of his bedroom chambers for the flimsy sake of a midnight stroll. Alas, unlike this castle, time did little to alter Atem; ＆he remained the same compulsive, carefree prince he’d always been, 

       only now, he wore a much larger & crushing crown upon his head. 

 The weight on his mind bore heavier than the charcoal circles that discolored his under eyes. Sleep evaded him tonight, as it had countless before. He traversed the open-archways that lined a hall blackened by night and spoke aloud to no one in particular, muttering, grumbling：

❝One would think that a man such as myself would be above fear. 

         ＆ Yet these cryptic nightmares haunt me still, a thief to my peace of mind that I cannot defend against. Endless worries, for a troubled king will surely result in troubled subjects… trouble, which seems to be my specialty. ❞
