this is kind of an unpopular opinion but it irks me a lot when asteroid readings are based on their namesake's mythology. those names are completely arbitrary, chosen by astronomers just because, they could've been anything else. ceres was originally named hera and juno, would her meaning have randomly changed just because an astronomer decided so?
this doesn't even happen with the modern planets - uranus, neptune and pluto have their own correspondencies not based on their deities but instead on the historic events that happened when they were discovered. it's even said that uranus fits the prometheus archetype more than the ouranos/caelus one.
like, why do we associate ceres with motherhood and nurture when its name was just voted between astronomers? there's even an asteroid named demeter, do they share meaning just because they share a deity?
it would make more sense for me to have these bodies have their own meanings independent of the deity they just so happen to be named after - otherwise, it just seems so random. had ceres been named hera or juno as it was intended, would we be reading her differently...?
