Samba de Amigo (Wii, 2008)
Published by Sega. Developed by Gearbox Software and Escalation Studios.
I've been on a slight Wii music game kick lately (thanks to Just Dance 3. Yeah) so I got this today to see how it was, as I've never played this (never seen the arcade game and I don't know anybody with a Dreamcast, let alone one with Samba and the maracas) and it's honestly a good port, even if the controls are kinda imprecise at times, due to the way the motions work. It's still a fun time, though.
Song selection is great; it keeps most of the songs from the original and Ver.2000, as well as adding new ones, although, as expected, not all of them are master tracks. There's also DLC but I haven't gotten that yet... and I'm guessing that it's no longer available anyway what with the Nintendo WFC service shutting down months ago.
Also, yes, this was a Gearbox production; apparently it was them that pitched the port to Sega. But, similarly to their later situation with Aliens: Colonial Marines, most of the work was handled by another developer, a company called Escalation Studios, and in fact this was their first published project; they were developing an FPS game called Severity alongside John Romero, but that got quietly cancelled. They're still alive, doing iOS/Android titles, some of them being spinoffs of titles like Doom, Rage, Ultima and Disney Infinity, so they at least had a better fate than the Colonial Marines guys.
