Today, it was 5150 day. One patient painted himself in pink house paint. Another patient attempted suicide by taking 50 pills of Xanax. I had another patient had no recollection of punching himself in the face. One other patient was found hiding in the friend’s backyard s/p busting a window.Â
All had PMHx of either or a combination of anxiety, depression, and schizophrenia. Anxiety: According to NIMH, anxiety is a common feeling among all. However, if it disrupts one’s life, then it is characterized as a disorder Types of anxiety include General Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, and Social Anxiety Treatments and therapies include Psychotherapy, Selp-Help and Support Groups, Stress Management, and Medication (antidepressant, anti-anxiety, and beta blockers) Fun fact: beta blockers lowers high blood pressure by dilating blood vessels.

Depression: Again, depression is a common feeling. But if interferes with everyday activities for at least 2 weeks, then it is considered as a disorder. Symptoms included by not limited to persistent sadness, hopelessness, guilt, fatigue, and loss interest in hobbies Different forms of Depression includes Persistent depressive disorder, Perinatal disorder, Psychotic depression, Seasonal affective disorder (aka SAD), Bipolar disorder

Schizophrenia: This condition is rare and has a genetic and environmental predisposition Positive symptoms include AVH and dellusions Negative symptoms include flat affect (emotion) and reduced speaking Schizophrenia may manifest due to imbalance of dopamine and serotonin
