the two fics i currently write are so drastically different because i try to honor canon unless explicitly stating a canon divergence and one of them is like "idk you have like 5 lines of dialogue, 3 official illustrations, the famicom game manual, and several extraneous publications that may or may not be considered canon" and the other is like "your protagonist is visually this exact human man and if you haven't watched the show for long enough you might accidentally mischaracterize someone bc they expressed an opinion on star trek 3 seasons in"
